What on earth are these liberals thinking?

90% of them are not thinking—they’re feeling.

The other 10% know better, but see it as yet another ploy to accumulate power by making unsustainable promises to the great, unwashed masses.

How do we not have this already??? Any lazy bum who doesn’t want to work can get food stamps. Its incredibly easy to make up a disability to get SSI. And prosecutions of doctors for fake disabilities are far too few. And if you pump out enough kids you can get enough income to live comfortably without even having to lie. The bottom line is that if you are lazy, you already can get a basic minimum income from the taxpayer in the good old USA.

If you have a child it is already here in the form of the EITC; getting money “back” that you never paid in the first place.

Didn’t Heinlein first propose this idea back in the ‘30’s with his work ‘For Us, the Living’?

Regardless, I thought it was an unworkable idea when I first read it... and I still do.

There is an author, Charles Murray, in his book In Our Hands, has proposed getting rid of all and every government welfare payment to the people, all entitlements, and instead, replace those with a 5-10k stipend per year, per person. On the surface, it sounds crazy, but he was able to show how it might be better than what we have now, and it was interesting to listen to anyways.

I need a bit more than a thousand a month to live on but maybe I can get more than one check.

Look at it this way: There are hardworking folks who really want to work and forcing those who don't to take a job simply deprives the willing worker of his due. Besides the unwilling worker's productivity will never be equal to the person with a real work ethic so it might actually be cheaper to pay the slackers to stay home, less traffic and so forth, you see.

As for those that are poor because they made bad decisions I can understand that quite well. One day years ago I decided I wouldn’t be wealthy and sure enough, that's one of my easiest goals to realize and I'm sure it is for many others.

Bad decision? I don't know, it seems so many have helped me follow through on that decision by drawing off my unspent funds that surely they must have seen the right of it.

And contrary to the cartoon, if I received this universal benefit check (or two or three) it would be spent on my needs only. I would only spend your hard earned money on someone who really deserves it....me.

I'll not take any more of your time, I know you'll need to work to support both of us soon.

Hate to ask... Could you give me a cash advance on my next check?

That’s step 1. Step 2 - only one benefit per family. Two siblings split one benefit. 4 each get 1/4.

Daughter used to date a guy whose mom said that we had enough land in the US to build houses for everyone to have a free house and enough farm land to provide free food for everyone. Daughter asked her if the government was going to provide a free place to live and free food, why would anybody work? Boyfriend’s mom didn’t get that concept. Fortunately, daughter finally kicked said boyfriend to the curb.

I think they’d have better luck trying to develop a replicator (Star Trek) machine. At least then, everyone could have their Earl Grey (or cat food..)

How much money does the private sector have to create in order for the government to distribute $300,000,000,000 / month (1000 * 300,000,000 or so citizens)?

I guess a better way to ask it is - in order for me to get a single dollar from the government, the bueracracy put in place for me to receive that money (taxman, administration, overhead etc...) has to get paid. So in reality a dollar in my pocket is two, three or four (or more!) dollars out of the private sector.

I can’t believe any serious person is considering this.

Just like the French “Universal Health Care” coming here, this thing is about destroying private entreprize, famishing Christians and providing with apparently nothing and no one to work for it the rest. What is the plan here? Getting the Chinese to pay for us? It’s not going to happen, folkes.
