I know you are going to get a lot of posts about how great a laptop is........
I’ve used the same tower case for 15 years and can upgrade every couple of years for less than a cheap laptop. Just changing out parts.
Yeah, I have a laptop..three or four of them...give them away every when they are upgraded. My company gives me a new one every year but that is on their dime. I still have a better computer at home because I can pick an choose what componetnts I want.

my experience with laptops so far is that they are not as fast... harder to fix or upgrade, and batteries just don’t last. As far as I’m concerned laptops are good for one thing... travel... and tablets are eventually going to bury the laptop industry.
Organic crystal displays will be the way to go when the costs comes down. Anyone looking to buy a new system should make sure the bios are UEFI compatible (lets you have native access to more then 3tb. Does your system have hdmi? projector hdmi?

I use a laptop almost exclusively. I have two ruptured disks and also am anemic and therefore get exhausted quickly. Having a laptop enables me to get some work done although I spend a lot of time lying flat in bed.
I have found laptops last long enough. I have two working laptops that have been retired because I wanted faster and bigger, not because they break.

If I really need more screen space, I can hook my MacBook to my 57” LCD TV. That’s plenty of size & resolution. :)
If prinitng is essential and you move around you can always get a Portable Printer. HP makes a good (pricey) little one that has a rechargeable battery.
Plus I can toss it in my gun safe when ever I’m out...

Using a nice Dell Covet w/16GB of RAM on an i7. The 256GB SSD and I shoehorned in 1 Terabyte for media storage. The desktops it replaced cuts down my cooling and electricity bills while being much quieter and less conspicuous. Only use the desktops when I need lots of cores all day to crunch through machine learning algorithms. I just don't trust the notebook cooling system when running all eight cores at 100% for hours on end.
I have been using Raptor drives in RAID configurations on desktops for ages and the bang for the buck with desktops have always been much greater than notebooks. But now, the notebook hardware is powerful enough, particularly with the SSD where desktops are obsolete.
You know, we're going to be the only ones left not too soon, that will be able to tell the rest of the world the truth about the revolution (when it happens.)
I'm not embarassed to say that was the entire reason I went out and got my license.
Main rig's a Kenwood TS-2000, Ameritron AL-811H, Mosley TA-33SR Tri-Bander and an Alpha-Delta DX-LB Plus 10-160 wire.
Backup rig's a Kenwood TS-940 w/an Ameritron AL-80B. Both rigs run through a KW switch and antenna matrix through a Palstar AT-2K legal-limit tuner.

For those who aren't Dell fans, the D630 XFR has a 14.1-inch LCD display, the 1545 has a 15.6-nch LCD display, and the E1705/9400 has a 17-inch LCD display.
We use the 17-inch screen E1705’s like a desktop and use them with the Logitech MX3200 wireless keyboard and laser mouse combo. Both Lexmark printers are wireless also. The Latitude D630 XFR and the Inspiron 1545 both use Logitech wireless laser mice. I love the Logitech products for the “feel” of the keyboards — best I've ever found — and the batteries in both keyboards and mice last a long time.
Our first PC was a Dell Dimension 8200 and the laptop was a Dell Inspiron 1450. Both were purchased in 2002. The 1450 soon became the favorite of the two. The step up from the 1450 was the E1705/9400, then came the 1545 with webcam, and the ‘Road Warrior’ D630 XFR acquired because it was a huge off-lease deal.
I now prefer the laptop for most of my computer needs simply because of the portability and weight factor. Most of the time the laptop is able to be plugged-in to its ac adapter, so battery life isn't that much of a problem. If I have to on battery, I use the highest rated battery possible for my particular laptop for longest battery life.
BTW, is that a Heil Pro headset hanging above the rotor box?
I am a software developer and all my tools are on a desktop in my office, but I routinely use my laptop to remotely access the desktop for development work. The arrangement works nicely because I like working with the laptop but don’t want to expose my code if it’s lost or stolen.
i dont even have any more desktops exvept onew that still has my windows media center and a TV video board

My only computer is a laptop. I haven’t had a desk top in years and don’t intend to ever have one.
The only laptop drive problems I’ve had are running out of space.
No problem: I just upgraded to a 500gb internal drive for about $56.
PS our laptops and/or netbooks have traveled to Africa, Central America, Indonesia, India.
My old machine, a Dell Inspiron 5150 which I used for solid modeling CAD (IronCad) is the only one that ever died (at home) after about 5 years. I copied the internal HD to a new machine and was back in business after a few hours.
I used the Inspiron for field work, including running my homemade seismograph while doing water surveys out in the woods.
The netbook is far more portable, has an 11 hour battery RUN TIME life, but not as fast and the screen is a bit small for my old eyes. Mrs BN loves it, though.
Do yourself a favor and buy an external keyboard and mouse for stationary use. Makes all the difference in ease-of-use.
It’s all I use these days.
