...I think that we need to move fast to properly "frame" this inevitable comparison. In particular:
Who do WE want "Harry Potter" to represent: Barack Obama or Sarah Palin? Will "Harry Potter" fans accept Governor Palin as an acceptable candidate for their hero? Can we get people to see Barack Obama as the "Bad Guy" in this comparison?
Harry Potter is a series of seven fantasy novels written by the British author J. K. Rowling.
The books chronicle the adventures of the adolescent wizard Harry Potter and his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.-- snip --The main story arc concerns Harry's quest to overcome the evil dark wizard Lord Voldemort, whose aim is to conquer the wizarding world and subjugate non-magical people, and who seeks to destroy all those who stand in his way, such as Harry's parents...
...The novels revolve around Harry Potter, an orphan who discovers at the age of eleven that he is a wizard, living within the ordinary world of non-magical or Muggle people.
Wizard ability is inborn, but magical children like Harry are invited to attend wizarding school to learn the magical skills necessary to succeed in the wizarding world...-- snip --...Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the last book in the series, begins directly after the events of the sixth book. [Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince]

I’ve given about four minutes total out of my life thinking about Harry Potter. Maybe three.
Sarah Palin is a different story.

Sarah Palin is a different story.
Gag me.
I have a feeling Palin’s supporters in those 10 markets will be voting with their eyeballs and fannies on July 15th.
The solution to this is easy. See HP 7.2 but buy tickets for Palin's movie. That's what we're doing.
Trust me, Sarah Palin is not competing ‘with/for’ the Harry Potter crowed!
whta is an “unauthorized doc”? Sounds sinister. As it probably is supposed to sound.
Why would anyone think the audiences for these two films are the same? Or that people won’t see both?
Of course note that everyone who goes to see Harry Potter at these theaters (likely the biggest crowds of the year, given the anticipation and the generally higher summer crowds) will see the posters for The Undefeated.
More free advertising.
As much as I like Sarah....
...I don’t need to be convinced about sarah
...I don’t need to have my opinion changed about Sarah
...I already plan on supporting Sarah if she runs
THEREFORE...my Lovely Wife and I are going to see Mr. Potter & company on that opening weekend. Yeah, yeah, I know...but we’re going to have MONTHS of politics and mud-slinging and vitriol and have our fill of everything we never wanted to know about ALL the Presidential candidates.
I’m going to see HP&TDH for pure escapist fun.
I’ll be seeing both that weekend. So no need to choose. :)
Watching Harry Potter will not be “sending a message” like it will be when I watch “Undefeated” on July 15. Harry can wait until the 16th. He’ll still be there.
