I posted this snarky article because I like the title, and because...
...I think that we need to move fast to properly "frame" this inevitable comparison.
In particular:
Who do WE want "Harry Potter" to represent: Barack Obama or Sarah Palin?
Will "Harry Potter" fans accept Governor Palin as an acceptable candidate for their hero?

Can we get people to see Barack Obama as the "Bad Guy" in this comparison?

For those of you who are (like me) not familiar with what exactly goes on in the "Harry Potter" stories, from wikiprdia.org:

Harry Potter is a series of seven fantasy novels written by the British author J. K. Rowling.

The books chronicle the adventures of the adolescent wizard Harry Potter and his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The main story arc concerns Harry's quest to overcome the evil dark wizard Lord Voldemort, whose aim is to conquer the wizarding world and subjugate non-magical people, and who seeks to destroy all those who stand in his way, such as Harry's parents...

-- snip --

...The novels revolve around Harry Potter, an orphan who discovers at the age of eleven that he is a wizard, living within the ordinary world of non-magical or Muggle people.

Wizard ability is inborn, but magical children like Harry are invited to attend wizarding school to learn the magical skills necessary to succeed in the wizarding world...
-- snip --

...Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the last book in the series, begins directly after the events of the sixth book. [Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince]

Voldemort has completed his ascension to power and gains control of the Ministry of Magic.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione drop out of school so that they can find and destroy Voldemort's remaining horcruxes...

-- snip --

...The book culminates in the Battle of Hogwarts.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione, in conjunction with members of the Order of the Phoenix and many of the teachers and students, defend Hogwarts from Voldemort, his Death Eaters, and various magical creatures.

Just an off subject aside: Couldn't Obama be a Half Blood Prince?

Couldn't Obama be a Half Blood Prince?

More like the Dark Lord.

I’ve given about four minutes total out of my life thinking about Harry Potter. Maybe three.

Sarah Palin is a different story.

Building expectations: Sarah Palin's movie must be a blockbuster. It must make $200M in its opening weekend, or else this will be interpreted as broad support for President Obama'a policies.

Gag me.

I have a feeling Palin’s supporters in those 10 markets will be voting with their eyeballs and fannies on July 15th.

The solution to this is easy. See HP 7.2 but buy tickets for Palin's movie. That's what we're doing.

Trust me, Sarah Palin is not competing ‘with/for’ the Harry Potter crowed!

I’ve given about four minutes total out of my life thinking about Harry Potter. Maybe three.
I understand.

But, check this out, from wikioedia.org:

Fans of the series were so eager for the latest instalment that bookstores around the world began holding events to coincide with the midnight release of the books, beginning with the 2000 publication of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
The events, commonly featuring mock sorting, games, face painting, and other live entertainment have achieved popularity with Potter fans and have been highly successful in attracting fans and selling books with nearly nine million of the 10.8 million initial print copies of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince sold in the first 24 hours.
The final book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows became the fastest selling book in history, moving 11 million units in the first twenty-four hours of release...

whta is an “unauthorized doc”? Sounds sinister. As it probably is supposed to sound.

Why would anyone think the audiences for these two films are the same? Or that people won’t see both?

Of course note that everyone who goes to see Harry Potter at these theaters (likely the biggest crowds of the year, given the anticipation and the generally higher summer crowds) will see the posters for The Undefeated.

More free advertising.

Perhaps not.
But that is the premise of this thread.
Perhaps we **can** use "The Undefeated" to win over some of the "Harry Palin" fans.
Stranger things have happened.
From our "after action report" following Governor Palin's appearance last year on the "Tonight Show" with Jay Leno:

...In this thread, which will serve as the "after action" report for our recent Leno FReep, I intend to explore this strange – and very unexpected (to me) twist -- that many Adam Lambert fans support Sarah Palin!

-- snip --

And, for those of you who (like me) were not aware of Adam Lambert until he appeared on the "Tonight Show" last week on the same night as Governor Palin's interview/monologue with Jay Leno, here are some screen captures of that appearance, from adamlamberttv.blogspot.com:

I don't know...
"Harry Potter" seems a little tame after seeing Adam Lambert...
...and many of **Adam Lambert** fans support Governor Palin.

Bingo!
And, if we have Organize4Palin volunteers at every theater where both films are playing...
...perhaps we can get a few of them to also watch "The Undefeated."
