Ed Schultz’s former wife Maureen had to get a restraining order against him during their divorce (this is publicly avaiable information). The rumor around town (Fargo, ND) was that Ed beat her up quite a bit. Around the time Ed went national with his radio show, he had those old divorce records sealed, in what appears to be a belated attempt to shield his lousy personal behavior from public scrutiny.
“Ed Shot His Dog” was a taunt from the crowd at North Dakota Bison football games that Ed S. announced, referring to a well known incident when Ed reportedly shot his hunting dog while in the field. Ed was variously reported to be a) drunk or hung over, b) pissed at the dog, or c) a lousy shot. Any one of those is an indictment of character and manhood in North Dakota.
