When asked three separate times due to the astounding callousness as it relates to trampling the inherent natural rights of Americans, he emphatically indicated that he would use random house to house checks...adding he felt people will welcome random searches if it means capturing a criminal.

“Anyway, read the decision. There’s no way a sheriff would use it as a basis to conduct random entries.”
Decisions? We don’t need no steenkin’ decisions.

Thanks for the ping, TM. I appreciate the service you do this community.

"People need to be very, very much aware of this bill," he charged. "What you're seeing in this bill is an evisceration of the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution. It is something that allows the President and the government to go into law-abiding homes, on their word alone--their suspicion alone--and to engage in warrantless surveillance. They are already doing it bill or no bill by archiving every electronic communication of any kind and using software to pull profiled patterns out of it.

Has this sheriff considered simply walking around in a deer suit in mid September??

I mean, that would be simpler...

I remember Tom Drake being charged last year for something to do with thin thread. FReepers support the Patriot Act so I presume they support thin thread too.

If they had limited their decision to the case at hand, ruling that it was not unreasonable for the police to enter warrantless in that particular matter, the decision may have been reasonable.
The blanket statement We believe ... a right to resist an unlawful police entry into a home is against public policy and is incompatible with modern Fourth Amendment jurisprudence, is a giant leap toward tyranny.
The cited remedies against unreasonable LEO entry (citing the following modern developments: (1) bail, (2) prompt arraignment and determination of probable cause, (3) the exclusionary rule, (4) police department internal review and disciplinary procedure, and (5) civil remedies) are either ludicrous jokes or available only to wealthy defendants.

Indiana Sheriff wants random house searchesAnd since the Indiana Supreeeemes say there is essentially no such thing as an illegal entry if you're a cop, the Sheriff of Nottingham would appear to be good to go.

Besides we dont want the terrorists and drug dealers to win, do we?Yes, I'm beginning to think I do, actually, given the alternative. (Also note that many FReepers' sarcasm meters seem to be broken today)

Yes, I looked to see if there were previous threads and there were and, generally, FReepers were condemning Thomas Drake. That link is to a long article but it is well worth reading.
Thin Thread was a program that Drake wrote which collected domestic info anonymously precisely to protect American citizens from warrantless surveillance. He was dumped and his program was re-written to allow the collection of full info not excluding names and other identifiers.
They are and have been storing every byte that passes through every electronic communication medium in a searchable directory and have the software to automatically put together profiles with any parameter they want.

Amazing how they can be so efficient when they want to be.

In other words, the Bill of Rights is no longer valid.
Impeach the judge, arrest and try the sheriff. Though we may be past the point that matters much anyway.

The police are clearly no longer our friends. They haven't been for sometime. They are a Standing Army, something the founding fathers warned against. Sooner or later, all things repeat. We are heading for tyranny.

My thought also! Collecting the data without analyzing it means little. Not to say they can’t target certain groups, but the fact is the mountain of mush can hide an awful lot.
