Just when the Indiana Legislature gives Governor Mitch Daniels (R-IN) a gift allowing him to sign a bill defunding Planned Parenthood it looked like the truce was over.
Well, not quite.

How bout Mitch Daniels Bites!
Daniels is in agreement with policies that the left is doing its best to resist.
Which side are you on? Daniels' or the Illinois Socialist Union?
I am missing something.
This article is referring to him commending Obama and Sec. Duncan on education in a speech. Nowhere does it talk about Planned Parenthood or defunding it.
Couple his comments with the legislation he pushed and signed:
The law, SEA 1, will require schools to evaluate teachers each year, and base future employment on those evaluations. Teachers who receive marks of improvement necessary or ineffective will not receive raises.
On July 1, districts that are not locked into current union contracts will adopt merit-based pay systems. Union contracts that specify automatic increases or seniority-based pay will remain in effect, but state law will bar them from being renewed.
The Indiana General Assembly has already passed two other items Daniels pushed this year. Those include an expansion of Indiana charter schools, as well as a voucher program. The latter would allow parents to use public money to send their children to private schools.
Politicians make political calculations in order to gain power. Most politicians on both sides of the aisle are just megalomaniacs with no particular value system or ideology. They do or say whatever they think will get them elected. In this instance, Mitch Daniels miscalculated. There are some of us who do stand for something.
Humblegunner, I owe you an apology. Remember when I argued with you on the whole subject of excerpting blogs? Well, I was wrong. You were right. (I hope you don’t get banned as a result of this apology. :) )
No worries, but what led you to this revelation?
If I was unable to explain my objections to excerpting one’s own blog then any failure was mine.
Daniels’ position is an aggrandizement of the federal government’s role in education, which IMO is extra-Constitutional and counterproductive. It is the big-government, technocratic type of position that Romney, W, and the Establishment GOP are for.
Any plan that forces teacher accountability and allows student choice of schools is, if not perfect, much better than what we have now.

What do you stand for in this case?
The actions that Daniels has praised are those that do away with tenure based on seniority, force teacher accountability based strictly on performance and allow for charter schools.
These actions are being fought tooth and nail by the teachers unions and the socialist party.
So, again, where do you stand?
Where does Daniels stand? If I remember correctly, he caved to the Unions when he had a chance to fight them during the Wis. public employee battle. And, this guy just said this week that he's not prepared to debate "the one" on foreign policy. Now he's praising Obama aolng with Duncan?
I'm not from IN but there's not that much there as far as him being a national leader if he decides to waste his time in the '12 race, he sounds like McCain.
Correct me if I'm wrong since I don't follow IN politics.
Actually it’s not even an excerpt, it’s a lousy one line teaser.
The road to qulaity education is very simple:
Set high standards.
Maintain disipline.
Involve the parents.
Currently, our shcools lower the standards, refuse to maintain discipline and the unions exclude parental involvement.
Administratively, run the school systems locally and keep the federal propaganda machine out of the schools. I have a granddaughter in the fifth grade in a very prestigious PUBLIC school in a very wealthy area. As an example of the liberal group think being perpetrated on our youth, she knows who Rachel Carson and Martin Luther King were, but she had not been taught who Adolph Hitler was. We are raising children in a fantasy world with the Department of Education’s national curricla initiative leading the charge.
The Federal role in education should be to keep the hell out. That’s where I stand. And on the need for MORE national involvement in our schools, I do not stand with Mitch Daniels. Our schools not be leftwing indoctrination centers. Mitch Daniels supports Obama’s cultural revolution. I do not. Indiana knows better than Washington. So does every other state and local community.
nail on head!
I think you’ve got it just right.
Thanks. I feel so strongly about this becasue the future of our country depends on educated people—not eco-socialist zombis.
The radicals have been subverting our educational system at every level ever since the 60s. Now they are in Washington trying to finish the job.
The fact is, thanks to Daniels, Indiana has become the first state to institute a state-wide voucher program. That has got to be the biggest conservative victory on education policy over the last 20 years!
But no, that's not important to you. No, to idiots like you, what matters more are a couple remarks at a speach in DC. Amazing.
Your memory is faulty. Prohibiting collective bargaining by public employees was one of the first things Daniels did when taking office.
