Robert De Niro Slams Donald Trump Over Obama Comments

Robert De Niro, who campaigned for President Barack Obama in 2008, isn't happy about criticism the nation's leader has received recently from Donald Trump, a possible contender for the upcoming Republican presidential nomination.

During a public interview with NBC News' Brian Williams on Saturday night at the Tribeca Film Festival, which De Niro co-founded, the notoriously tough interviewee grew passionate when the conversation turned to politics, according to published reports.

Speaking about the potential government shutdown, De Niro said: "How did we get to this point? ... This is crazy. And I know Obama was trying to bridge the gap. His intentions are really good. Maybe some things are not as good as we all would like, but his intentions were right. A lot of these guys, they're intentions are not even good. They're just playing the game. And they're playing with people's lives."

He then seemingly turned his focus to so-called "birthers," Republicans like Trump who have called Obama's birth certificate into question.

"I won't mention names, but certain people in the news the last couple weeks, just, what are they doing?" De Niro said. "It's crazy. They're making statements about people that they don't even back up. Go get the facts before you start saying things about people."

When Williams asked whether De Niro might be talking about someone who has a show "on my network on Sunday night," referring to Trump's The Celebrity Apprentice, De Niro confirmed that he was indeed talking about the real estate mogul.

"It's like a big hustle; It's like being a car salesman," De Niro added. "Don't go out there and say things unless you can back them up. How dare you? That's awful to do. To just go out and speak and say these terrible things? Unless you just wanna get over and get the job. It's crazy."

De Niro isn't the first celebrity upset over Trump's comments. Last week, Jerry Seinfeld pulled out of a charity event hosted by Trump's son because he was becoming become "increasingly uncomfortable" with Trump's recent questioning of Obama's citizenship, according to his manager.

Take away the F word in De Niro’s movies and he is screwed.

Why are people so afraid to consider the possibility that Obama wasn’t born here?

Bobby, really??
I NEED the facts to make my own decision.
Also, why is it so terrible for me to have doubts, due to the lack of facts.

Finally, Bobby, when you state 0bama was born in Hawaii, that claim is based on faith alone

De Niro as Rupert Pupkin: Better to be king for a night than schmuck for a lifetime.

De Niro and Trump....both sideshow distractions. *If* Trump had found something on Obammie, it’d be out by now.

“Don't go out there and say things unless you can back them up.”

Exactly right, Bobby.

Now, instead of attacking Trump, why don't you ask Obama to back up up his contention that he was born in Hawaii and his parents are Stanley Ann Dunham and Barak Hussein Obama by releasing his long-form birth certificate.”

If backing things up is required for Trump, it should be required for Obama. Fair's fair. Right Bobby?

Bob Bob career is about over

I would think Obama is needs to prove he is eligible.

Must be something there the more they push back. The more that make the Donald's case.

De Niro is deluding himself if he thinks he is too big to get slammed back.

Yea it's crazy when people talk and don't know the facts, especially when they're trying to lecture others. (/rolling eyes)

Being paid to pretend to be other people, and being adored and adorned with silly money in the process. I guess they feel like the chosen ones, and maybe its guilt that guides them. Robert has been an outspoken liberal. I guess it gets them good gigs, but alienates half the audience. All of it shows they aren’t that bright in my estimation.

Note to Hillary: you still don’t have the support of Seinfeld, DeNiro, and other out of touch elitist entertainers. You need something bigger than O’s birth certificate to take him down from his Hollywood throne.

(In other news, Jerry Seinfeld punishes charity for association with Trumps son. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)
