I think it is a bad political strategy for conservatives to attack Donald Trump this early in the game. The conservative media, many conservative blogs, the liberal media and Freepers are going after Trump for his ideological inconsistencies.
The liberal media will use all its powers to destroy ANY GOP candidate for president. That is a given. They want Barack Obama re-elected, even if the entire country is collapsing around them and regardless if the GOP candidate was as spotless as Jesus Christ.
But, conservatives are going after Trump also.
This early in the game that is a bad strategy for us and here are the reasons:
Donald Trump, out of every GOP candidate out there, has the most power to do the most harm to Barack Obama and weaken him as a candidate for re-election.
Donald Trump doesn't fear the liberal media like the other candidates. He is willing to go every MSM media outlet and tell the truth about Barack Obama.
Donald Trump doesn't mince words about Obama and isn't afraid of the race card. Trump doesn't talk in weasley politico-speak like most of the others.
Donald Trump has the most power out of all the candidates to nip a Romney or Huckabee candidacy in the bud.
Donald Trump is willing to use his own money to go after Barack Obama and the liberals, saving conservatives hundreds of millions of dollars in campaign contributions and ads for media. I think we conservatives under-estimate the power of free media that we get with Donald Trump's attacks on Barack Obama and his policies.
Every time we conservatives attack Donald Trump that gives the liberal media sound bites to destroy Donald Trump and his message, which is to get Barack Obama out, and it gives ammunition for Romney and Huckabee to go after Trump in the early primaries and debates.
Donald Trump isn't beholden to any GOP establishment money or establishment players who would give us Romney, who really is no better than a McCain or Bob Dole when it comes to winning a general election.
With all that being said, conservatives have every right to criticize Donald Trump for his intellectual and ideological inconsistencies, and I would never in a million years want to censor anybody for their beliefs, but RIGHT NOW, Donald Trump just being out there with his message against Obama helps us in the long run, especially before the primaries begin.
We have almost a year until the primaries begin and having Donald Trump attacking Barack Obama day after day in the media doesn't hurt conservatives, but makes it more difficult for Obama to win.
Whatever one thinks of Trump, I think it is imperative that we have somebody on our side who is willing to take the fight to other side and fight hard and point out the weaknesses, incompetence and their destruction of the US.
I am not a Trump true believer and welcome debate on this issue and would like to hear from people about the holes in my argument and their concerns.
I agree. Preaching to the choir.
I think there’s a big differnce between supporting Trump and just standing by quietly while he trashes Obama ands gets big media to pay attention. I wouldn’t vote for him for dogcatcher, but he is saying all the things the PC types don’t dare to say, and Obamas numbers keep dropping.
I won’t trash him because I know he isn’t a serious candidate. He would never turn the empire over to his children to ruin- or disclose his real net worth.
Does anyone think he has a chance in IOWA, New Hampshire or SC? Please!
If trump runs he destroys all the other republican nominees. I don’t care if you like the guy or not, he has balls, something all of the other LEGIT nominees do not have. So all of you who would “never” vote for trump, stay home or don’t vote for him. Go ahead and everyone else will hold you personally responsible for dooming this country with another 4 years of O. You people are no better than the people who actually vote for O. But you held onto your conservative values........
I don’t agree with you on A or C but your spot on with B.
All this effort being expended in attacking Trump, is yet another ‘pass’ that Obama is getting.
Bought gas recently?
of course you don’t. That’s all right. This won’t be the first time I have earned the right to say I told you so.
If Trump isn't serious about running then he needs to say so. He doesn't need to run for President to bash Obama does he?
Funny, Giuliani was not exempt, McCain, Huck and Romney are not exempt. Plain is not exempt.
Now some apparently that someone deserves exempt status!
Exactly! Let him run his mouth while we focus on Obama and his disastrous policies.
I read Trumps autobiography 20+ years ago- he is an egomaniac, opportunist and thoroughly unprincipled. That will come out and voters will run from him like scalded dogs!
Sorry, the attacks on Donald Trump will continue. You catching grief for promoting Trump will continue. Lets face it. Trump's liberal record is only slightly less liberal than Obama's.
Lashing out and lying about Reagan in order to cover for a creep like Trump, may win you a few brownie points among the malcontents and jackasses who sneak around disrupting the forum. Your word's, however, speak for themselves.
Using Reagan to prop up liberals has been tried before without success. From Schwarzenegger, to Giuliani, to Romney and onto Scott Brown, the outcome was utter failure. None of these bozos could ever fill Reagan's shoes. That goes double for Trump. Compared to Reagan, Trump is an empty suit.
>>>>>>You are the one who sounds like a liberal
Really! Lets see, been posting on FRee Republic since 1999. It should be easy for you to find one example of me defending or supporting a liberal like Trump or any liberal for that matter. I'll be waiting.
On the other hand. You've been on FR since July 2010. In less then a years time, you thought it necessary to create a vanity thread to legitimize Donald Trump as a presidential candidate. Then you attempt to turn it into a referendum on Ronald Reagan's conservatism. Taking cheap pot shots at a great man like Reagan just proved my point about you, troll.
Which conservative interests specifically
Trump certainly doesn’t need to flirt with a Presidential run (again)— but my guess is he loves the attention.
Let’s remember we are 19 months from the election; 13 months from the official filing date.
Primaries don’t start until next January- I think its way too early to get upset about a guy who is pro-choice, pro- tax, pro-everyliberalissue you can name.
He quit the last time he was “running”- he likely will quit this time before people get really sick of him. A little Trump goes a long way.
It's enjoyable to see someone, anyone, go after Obama the way Trump is, and seeing him get in the face of the liberal media. He's fearless. It's FUN to watch and will help our success in the next election.
We all know that Trump is not conservative. Who knows what motives he has.
You name it - taxes, immigration, trade, et al. Trump is for Trump, not for any kind of values.
Hear, hear!
There are many cases when one not ideologically pure helps a people. King Darius/Artaxerxes may have been a pagan king but nonetheless helped Nehemiah and his people to reclaim their land.
Do you agree?
For your benefit. Opportunism, johnny-come-lately antics and convenient conversions are not traits which conservatives embrace. While the leftwing establishment continues to give a pass to their leadership and "star" personalities, conservatives approach politics from a different perspective. Conservatives think holding politicians feet to the fire is a prerequisite to handing out kudos and that-a-boys. Conservatives also do not find the cult of personality rewarding. Rather, we find it toxic. We conservatives analyze and evaluate the entire individual and their full record before we give them the mark of approval and long before jumping on any bandwagon. Besides, does somebody need to run for potus in order to trash Obama? I think not. Hope that clarifies things for you.
One last thing. May I borrow a quote. When it comes to Donald Trump>>>>>we only do ourselves a disservice through blind sycophantic devotion. Look familiar?
Enjoy your Easter.
