Two term governor of New Mexico (1995-2003), Gary Johnson, confirmed today that he's officially running for the presidency. No exploratory committee, no beating around the bush, Johnson is the very first republican candidate to officially announce his candidacy. Johnson is a very intriguing candidate, quite libertarian in his views, both socially and economically, much like a younger Ron Paul, with the exception that Johnson is not pro-life...

(in other words, probably doesn’t stand a ghost of a chance)

Good luck with that. Maybe he and Paul can run as 1 percenters for the Libertarians.

Well, there is no lack of comedy on our side so far. We can watch the Paultards in-fight between RuPaul and Johnson.

Just what the GOP needs: a pro-abortion, libitarian nut-job. Stick to your triathalons Gary.

Well he eliminated a huge number of state jobs, cut the budget and left his state with a surplus. And this was a state without a few billion in oil tax revenue.

So, as far as fiscal conservatism goes, he's among the best cadidates. You pretty much know he has the smarts and guts to actually chop FedGov down to size. He vetoed more bills as Gov than all other Gov's combined.

Donald Trump gonna do that? Mitt Romney? Mike Huckabee? who knows, but probably not.

He is only a single ‘leg’ conservative, ie economic only. He is liberal on both defense and social issues. Pogo-stick conservatives might as well be Dems.

I’d take that over Romney. We need someone with a strong Libertarian streak. GW started out talking conservative and ended up just as bad as a liberal, but thank God he was pro-life. Where did that get us? He and the other so called conservatives caved to the liberals constantly getting us in this mess. So I’ll take the guy who has aLibertarian streak who happens not to be pro-life. We can’t afford any more big spending conservatives with no backbones.

I'll second that - I've had enough of conservative-sounding Republicans who have no guts & smarts to actually cut any of the liberal garbage that's been piling up for the last 100 years. I can help man the front-lines of the abortion battle - but I need someone in the Presidency to take on our federal government monster.

I heard Gary Johnson speak at (SE Michigan) the NOCR (North Oakland County Republicans...my first and only time attending a meeting like that) in early 2010. As I recall I did not like all of his positions, but there were other positions I did agree with. (I’ll see if I can find my notes). I thought at the time...what is this former governor from New Mexico doing in Michigan in the middle of winter on a cold snowy night? He thought he could make a positive difference and did not like the direction the current administration was taking the country. I had done no research on him before the event and have done none since the event. Kudos to Gary Johnson for jumping into the race.

I have ZERO agreement with Barack Obama and ZERO agreement with ANYTHING he has done in these first 2+ years.

If he’s a pro-abort, that’s a deal breaker.
