Loren, You seem to equate “birthers” to “truthers” or other type of partisan doubters, but the birth certificate issue is different because Obama, himself has intentionally increased the doubt by doubling down on his refusal to be open about who he is and what he believes. His books only tell what he wants the public to see and little that is revealing or personal.
The problem that I see with the certificate of live birth is that his name on all official records was not Barack Obama until he was at Columbia College. That’s when he changed his name. He needs to explain that.
I'm not seeing the difference. Moon hoaxers argued that NASA increased doubt by not photographing the moon, or by taping over the landing films. Truthers argued that Bush increased doubt by not testifying at the hearings. MLK assassination conspiracy theorists argue that the government has increased doubt by sealing the investigation.
I understand that you think it's substantively different, but it's not a legitimate reason to heighten your doubt on this issue that when Birthers asked Obama to jump, that he didn't respond 'How high?'

What official records are you thinking of? Because I can think of at least three known pre-Columbia uses of his name. First was his Selective Service application. Second was his high school yearbook. Third were the poems he had printed in an Occidental magazine. Heck, four if you count the fact that the COLB reflects the information on his original birth certificate.
