One of my favorite columnists in existence, Peggy Noonan, had a great piece today on how Obama owes the country an explanation of his actions in Libya.
As usual she is spot on. It's not like we're asking him to solve any problems, we just want him to give us an explanation. You'd think he'd treat that like we just asked him to celebrate pre-Christmas. He gets a script, a teleprompter, he doesn't have to answer any questions, and he'll speak from his desk, so doesn't even have to change out of his golf shorts!
But no, we wake up one day to find out that we're lobbing tomahawk missiles and potentially creating a global cous cous crisis, and we don't even get a flippin' magazine cover out of it?
For two years this guy chased cameras like he was going to cheat on Michelle with one of them, and now we don't get to find out why he's sending us into ANOTHER war.
The worst thing about all this is the left seems to be on the same side as us, but he's a Democrat so they're more interested in talking about the apparent conservative hypocrisy on this issue than the fact that their guy just Orwelled the word "unilateral."
This is supposedly not unilateral because Obama got a signed permission slip from the U.N. and then decided to go green by not making our own Congress waste any paper in drafting one of their own.
In other words, Obama hasn't acted unilaterally in the eyes of his fellow citizens of the world, just the Americans who elected and pay him to put them first.
Why is this different from how Bush handled Iraq? This can be the part of the post where liberals can check out and affirm their ignorance at the Firedoglake post linked above.
Is Gadaffi a POS? Hell yes he is! However, our government is not responsible for addressing ALL of the sphincter vomit of the world. It's job is to be responsible for just the sphincter vomit that poses a threat to us.
If that's not going to be the rule of thumb then the guy who breaks it has explaining to do....preferably before he goes on his next vacation.

Bush got plenty of authorization from the UN on Iraq. Not that we need any steeenking authorization. UNSC 1441 explicitly auhorized the usecof force.
He gets a script, a teleprompter, he doesn't have to answer any questions, and he'll speak from his desk, so doesn't even have to change out of his golf shorts! Obama is waiting until Monday to tell congress why he did what he did. He doesn’t know why he did what he did yet, and has a couple extra days to see which way the wind is blowing, and then, will figure out what to say about why he did what he did. ;)
I’m probably dating myself, but the best example of how we should have gone about this “operation” in Libya is December 1989, and Operation Just Cause, the invasion of Panama, and the overthrow of Manuel Noriega.
Noriega presented a clear and present danger to US interests in Panama, and the canal itself. President Bush laid the groundwork, set a series of goals and kicked off the operation with a clear address to the American people, explaining what those goals were and how the operation would proceed.
We went into Panama and eventually captured Noriega. He is still in prison to this day and even if he were repatriated to Panama he has no power base left.
Without deposing Kadaffy, the current operation in Libya is pointless, and Premier Hussein’s Oval Office address next Monday is at least a day late and a dollar short. This has been such a half-baked effort from the very beginning, I’m amazed Hussein has the audacity to even bother with an address.
Monday night will be a frickin’ doozy....

Noonan is a moron, but she hit the nail on the head with the last piece. I wish she had that revelation back in 2008, when she did everything but throw her panties at Obama.

Well, I stand by what I say. I truly enjoy her writing....can’t help that.
This is true. I had that in mind, when I was writing that but I didn’t feel the need to go there to make the point about us not being hypocrites.
On a different note, are you the Haiku Guy that posted the haiku about Trump at Da Techguys Blog?
The only piece I saw her do about Palin was the one where she blasted her for saying Reagan went into the presidency as an actor, Noonan then went on to detail the multitude of relevant leadership experience he brought to the table.
I like Palin, but after reading that piece I was on Noonan’s side.
That said, I understand why people here may not like her, but I like her writing...always have. Doesn’t mean I endorse everything she says. I can’t say that about any conservative.
