We don’t live in a communist country where jobs are assigned according to intellect or bulk. Police and firefighters weren’t drafted. If you chose to be one, I applaud you but that being said, that doesn’t mean you get to tell us how much you get paid because you chose a job that potentially puts your life in peril. If it’s not worth the risk, I wouldn’t blame you at all if you walked, but this job safety-guilt trip sh-- is starting to fall on deaf ears.

We could solve all the state and federal budget problems if we could just package up all the products and services produced by these government union workers, and sell them (for a profit) on the open market in another state or another country overseas.

And therein lies the problem ... no one else is willing to pay such a price for their products or services.

Not being facetious, I just don't recall seeing “hero”. I could be wrong though. Can't say I have read EVERY thread and EVERY comment posted here on FR!!

If you had been paying attention to the FReepathons, you would know that the sentence is used by Free Republic to promote donations.

You would know that I wasn’t calling myself a hero, not by a long shot, but that was the first thought that popped into your tiny mind? You don’t know how much I donate, or even whether I do. It’s none of your business.

I'm not. But being called a "hero" for $5 a month is pretty over the top. That only equals 5x12 = 60 bucks a year. Not exactly what I call "hero". Personally, I think ANYONE who contributes what ever they can to keep FR going is a hero FReeper. Sometimes we have more to give than other times, as in my case.

I just need my FR and give whatever I have to keep it going. Some of my quarterly donations far exceed your “hero” status.
