Mike Huckabee drummed up some publicity for his presidential run Thursday by attacking Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman. The former Arkansas governor's celebrity target of choice might seem like an odd one, perhaps he was really taking a low blow at someone else.
Politicians taking on celebrities to get media attention is nothing new. Former Vice President Dan Quayle attacked musician 2Pac Shakur when he was up for re-election in 1992, blaming the singer's album "2pacalypse Now" for influencing a man to kill a Texas Ranger. Fortunately, Mike Huckabee's attack on Natalie Portman isn't quite so serious.
During a radio interview, he complained that the actress is setting a bad example by having a baby out of wedlock, calling her out for glamorizing the idea of out-of-wedlock children and pointing out that most unwed mothers aren't living such glamorous lives, stating, "Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care."
During an interview with Us Magazine, his attempt to clarify his statement was little more than a plug for his book, as he went on to say, "These people should read my book and they would know what I said instead of what some left-wing partisans are attempting to put forth." So is Mike Huckabee's attack on Natalie Portman just a way to increase book sales?
This is very possible, but it's also possible that he was slyly taking a dig at one of his potential presidential opponents. After all, Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol had a child out of wedlock as a teenager....

I THOUOGHT YOU WERE AGREEING WITH ME.
I don’t know if that’s true. She’s too affable somehow.
How do you figure? She’s not known for that sort of thing.
Only if you were being sarcastic.
Natalie Portman, out of the blue, announced both her engagement (to the baby's father) and her pregnacy on the same day. By the time the baby is born, she may very well already be married.
The pregnancy was probably an "accident" and she could have had an abortion so that the holier-than-thou crowd would not point fingers.
Attacking her serves no useful purpose and will only hurt Huckabee.
Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Dan Quayle, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Henry Kissinger, Nancy Pelosi, Newt Gingrich, John McCain on FR threads, ......
.... especially as she is a private citizen, the same as you and me.
If Sarah Palin were merely a "a private citizen, the same as you and me", she would be yesterday's news .... like John Edwards.
But, she is not "a private citizen, the same as you and me". She is neck deep in current politics. She hints at being a 2012 Presidential candidate. She sticks her nose in Delaware Senate politics, gets a conservative nominated in a liberal state (with results as predictable as getting a liberal candidate nominated in a conservative state) and hands a Senate seat to the Obama forces on a silver platter. She takes every opportunity to be in the limelight, even to the point of doing Reality TV with Kate Gosselin.
Palin and Gosselin in the Mother of All Reality Shows
Liberals attack Sarah Palin for the same reason that we attack Nancy Pelosi: They are both very easy targets, they both have Unfavorable poll ratings that top 50% among all voters and we both want to paint them as the face of the opposing Party.
Well, Huck just went up in my opinion. I have no respect for Portman, born in Israel, who in fact REFUSED to go home and do her duty in the Israeli army.
She has the talent of toast without butter.
My opinion all.
Yeah, I was. Sorry.
Her family emigrated here when she was three. Do you think the children of all immigrants should go back and serve in the army of the country their parents left?
For Israel...Yes, I think she should have.
Be realistic. There’s no precedent for that at all.
