New Poll Out on Donald Trump after CPAC Appearance

Real estate developer Donald Trump made waves at the CPAC convention last week saying that Texas Representative Ron Paul would not get elected in 2012. That was met with boos and shouts of 'fascist' from Paul's followers. Now a new poll shows that Trump is not terribly popular within the GOP.

This poll is from Public Policy Polling, which tends to favor Democrats. The following was asked just of Republicans. Democrats and Independents were not asked in this poll. It is unclear what the figures would be if they were.

Not supporting Trump, but he’s probably be better than about 70% of the people in the race so far.

If Trump’s unavailable, maybe we can get Tonya Harding or Horseshack.

That was in response to Ron Paul supporters booing and hissing him.

He told the truth.

I like everyone of Ron Paul’s ideas but so many are unworkable on this planet and the realities we live in.

I would love to tell everyone to go to hell but that is isolationist and will only get you to be the sole survivor on an island no where near anyone else.

Trump is arrogant, an adulterer and condescending, but he probably has a better chance than anyone for the GOP nomination.

He certainly knows business and seems extremely concerned with our position in world affairs, which is more than we can say for the current POTUS. And he is pro-life.

So far, all of the GOP potentials are too “nice”. We need someone to counter the dems and their tactics, and Trump might be the guy.

Trump says many things that ‘sound good’ but...

He is perceived as a TV personality, not a viable political personality.

He would probably win about as many primaries as Steve Forbes and Ross Perot did.

I'm not very impressed with Trump's business acumen. He inherited his real estate career and fortune. He's filed for bankruptcy twice. He's been billions in debt and defaulted on loans, screwing banks and partners out of hundreds of millions of dollars.

I think the party should be able to do better than somebody with a rollercoaster business career and a ridiculous personal life history.

The way the country's heading, his set of skills could come in handy, but I'd rather a business leader with more experience in avoiding bankruptcy rather than exploiting it.

Just in case you haven't noticed, He's a Dem.

He gave money to Obama, Shumer, and many others. I don't even know if he's ever supported a Repub. Kinda ballsy to show up a CPAC. He's just another pol trying to get populist cred.

Running your mouth off isn't always a sign of a good politician.

I'm not saying Paul is my choice either, but at least you know he's a libertarian and not a Repub.

I’m not saying Trump is this person, but it will take AN outsider to really do the dirty work of slashing the government. Anyone wrapped up in the establishment is going to run their mouth and do exactly nothing. They’ll cut 100 billion and proclaim it a victory, and many of the knee jerk republicans will clap and smile and forget that Obama increased the budget almost DOUBLE, and that a 100 billion dollar cut is the equivalent of taking a 10 cent coupon to the store to buy a $5000.00 entertainment center package.

It isn’t even enough to just roll back the budget to 2008 levels. The problems are so much deeper than that. As Rand Paul said, you have to cut DEPARTMENTS.

I’m not sure the person exists who both has the name and personality, and truly would do what is needed.

Ross Perot probably would have won had he not flaked and dropped out and then went back in the race.

An outsider as POTUS isn’t enough and will be counterproductive unless you fill Congress with like-minded outsiders.

I used to think he flaked out, now I wonder if there was far more to that story. when someone gets close to upsetting the status quo...who knows what could happen I feel if someone else ran third party now, and got close, something else "weird" would magically happen again.

Yeah. And there was that situation with the illegal aliens he saw on his lawn. Not the south-of-the-border kind, but the Alpha Centauri kind.

That is true, it isn’t enough, and personality driven movements don’t last.

And then there was the time when he tried to leave Admiral Stockdale by the side of the road.

No, it wouldn’t having us be the sole survivor, it would only hasten a major attack on our soil. Ron Paul does NOT get it at all about Radical Islam, so his views on foreign policy are hairbrained. If we just withdraw our strength from all countries and world events, terrorists who are constantly plotting to kill us (and Israel) simply because we exist, will have an even easier job than they do now. They’ll bring their war here with virtually no impediments along the way.

And when it comes to how free trade is supposed to work (as opposed to how it has been, with us getting screwed right and left (particularly by China), Trump has it right. I wasn’t a fan until I heard him speak a few times on this (principally at CPAC), but it could be that now the time is right for a leader (if not him, one who thinks like him) who is resolute on restoring our respect in the world, and who has the knowledge, ability and the WILL to kick some asses that need kicking. (I’m primarily speaking economically, before people call me a war-monger :-)

Yes, I can now add him to my (very short) list of Alpha Males who could go toe to toe with BHO, so there’s a triumvirate - Cain, West and Trump. The rest would get rattled in direct confrontation and clobbered by BHO in debate and by the media in hostile interviews.

Uh, Ronald Reagan - movie star, actor’s union president, TV host (GE Theatre) and radio sportscaster. Arnold as CA gov., Sonny Bono as congressman and mayor, Clint Eastwood as mayor, Love Boat’s Gopher as congressman, wrestling TV star Jesse Ventura as governor, etc., etc., etc.

Then there’s the current POtuS, community organizer with no documentation or records, appearing out of nowhere, who’s in a “class” all by himself.
