The biggest moment any singer can ask for: "The Star Spangled Banner" at the Super Bowl. And Christina Aguilera messed up the lyrics.
At about 51 seconds in, as she was about to sing the fourth line ("O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming"), she accidentally sang a hybrid of the second line: "What so proudly we watched, at the twilight's last streaming."
Like a professional, she seemed to know that she messed up, but kept going to the end. Check it out below.

Hmm ~ the original song wasn't just an instance of one solid note after another ~ it was a DRINKING SONG ~ or as some have described it, a TEST to see if you'd had too much. As long as you could sing it, you were OK.
So, what is it? You don't like the way others sing the song? Solution to that is to BID for the job next time.

IIRC, the Over/Under was 1 min. 54 secs. for the anthem.
Looks like the Over won.

When will singers ever learn that the National Anthem is not a performance venue. Just sing it like it’s supposed to be sung and quit trying to impress people... which you’re not!

So the next time you have to sing in front of 100 million people let’s see if you do it perfectly. For crying out loud. find something important to worry about.

Not only HORRIBLE, but disrespectful too. I HATE it when these so-called stars decide OUR National Anthem is fair game for their interpretation and artistic impression. Sing the song the way it was meant to be sung, or DONT SING IT. All those extra voice inflections, pauses, and drawn out notes inserted at her whim made a mockery of the Anthem. Just HORRIBLE. I remember when Whitney Houston sang it at the Super Bowl during Gulf War I. She did the inflections, pause, etc. and it was just BEAUTIFUL.
Ever since then, it seems that these Prima Donnas singing in subsequent Super Bowls want to try to "out-Whitney" Whitney ...
And they ALL fail miserably ...

Maybe next year the NFL can hold auditions before they choose someone.

Is anyone surprised that a pop star has no idea of of the nature of the culture that made her rich and famous?
Today is a good day to die.

That was just awful. Long for the day when Whitney Houston sang it. She set the modern day standard.

I hate the halftime shows they put on during the Super Bowl. They are ruining the game with all this garbage.

It helps if you know the lyrics. Pretending to sing it kinda sucks.

The Star Mangled Banner. The halftime show sucked just as badly. The “entertainment” this year was a suckfest.

Even w/o the mess up that was the worst version since Rosanne Barr,...Got to agree. Why do these floozies find it necessary to improve upon perfection? Reminds me of my daughter at age 3 who, after teaching her the alphabet, said, "Now I will tell you my way."

I used to LOVE listening to Mariah Carey. I remember when Oprah first introduced her on her show. She was so sweet and beautiful as was Whitney Houston was when she began. I don’t know what happened to them but the women I saw and loved to listen to have since faded into something I don’t know anymore nor care to know.

Thank God the roar of the jet engines helped to drown out her voice. The real joy was the fighters and their message:
