There's a lot of good advice here. One point regarding guns. In CA, ARs and AKs are illegal. However, the Mini-14 is banned neither by name nor by characteristics. With either iron sights or a red dot sight, it's good on a man-sized target at 100 yards. That's why I brought my Mini-14 instead of my AR when I came to CA for the winter. However, it's not a sniper rifle. Don't expect to do precision shooting with it.

one other major advantage of the mini 14 i notice on mine. you can shoot a thousand rounds thru it without cleaning and it still goes. just will not jam.
