He refused to follow up on the many death threats against local citizens when they repeatedly asked him to rein in the little Homo-Commie

His job as sheriff is to protect people within his jurisdiction (which he did not do), and then when an incident like this occurs, his job is to bring the perp to justice and then let the DA and the court system handle things once the perp is in custody. What he’s doing, though, is providing AMPLE ammunition (pardon the pun) for Jared Loughner’s defense attorneys to use in their forthcoming insanity defense. See, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, here is the SHERIFF HIMSELF on national television telling everyone how crazy our client is, and how his actions were brought about by the political climate in this country. The SHERIFF HIMSELF is telling you that Jared Loughner couldn’t help himself, that the voices in his head were acting on someone else’s instructions.
