WikiLeaks and double standards in a toxic media environment

Before publishing classified information, media elites should consider the potential effect on their profession (I wouldn’t expect them to care about public safety).

It’s shameful. Or to quote the Professor of Sociology (University of Kent, England) Frank Furedi: “Myself, I am struck by the unattractive self-congratulatory tone taken by the newspapers that announced to the world that they, too, have seen the scraps of memoranda scattered across the internet.”

And his spiked online piece closes on a grim note: “There was a time when brave men and women took it upon themselves – at significant personal cost – to reveal the improper behaviour of the organisations they worked for. Before whistleblowing became institutionalised and legally protected, defying your superiors represented an exemplary act of moral courage. Today, when whistleblowing is effectively part of the job description of anyone seeking public acclaim and attention, it simply represents an incitement to disloyalty.”

The world's Gubmits are going to take this as an excuse to regulate the Internet. Mark my words.

It was fine when Wikileaks "only" attempted to embarrass the US military.

When the State Dept cables embarrassed not only our Dept of State, White House, and other agencies that was bad. When they embarrassed the Saudis (ATM for terrorists), Russia (run by brutal, mafia thugs), Argentina, France, UAE, South Korea, China, etc - then that was too much.

The elites looked like the back stabbing idiots that they really are - and we can't have the world's public knowing about that.

Soooooooooooo..........expect the World Wide Web as we have known it for 15 years to come crashing down. You might not recognize it in 2 years.

Yeah the left uses any excuse to censor law-abiding citizens. But they will fail.
