He was the greatest coach in the NFL when he was 6-0 in his first year at Denver.
At that point still had most of Shanahan's team. Especially on defense. Further, most opponent coach's hadn't figured him out at that point ... that quickly changed when they came to the conclusion McDaniels was really just another 'Johnny one note'. After that he was out coached bigtime.
