Yeah. Why should they get free health care for their kids when we don’t have it?

What do we do about the 60 million people who don’t have health care? Have we got any plans? From where I’m sitting, it seems like the plan is to let most of them die if they get sick.

I just found out that a school friend, owner of a small business, who has no insurance, has breast cancer. She’s 56 - and there is absolutely no assistance for her. She paid for the tests out of pocket, has been looking for someone who will treat her in her county in Florida (Indian River) - there’s nobody, nobody. In the month since she was diagnosed, she’s gone from Stage 3 to Stage 4.

These are the hard-working small business people that make up the backbone of this nation. Private companies have subsidized health care for their workers - if the workers are lucky. Small business owners have to buy it on the private market and there’s nothing, *nothing*, affordable if you are 45+.

So what do we tell her? “You haven’t got the money. It’s time to die of an illness that would be treatable if you were rich enough to count for anything in this country.”

Yeah I’m bitter.
