"I've been around here long enough to remember that when Congressman Paul's writings were posted they were nearly universally cheered. Now there's a large contingent who have an irrational hatred of the man. While I may not agree with him all the time I'd take another 50 of him in Congress any day of the week.
I'm with you on that. I don't always agree with him either, but I believe he has been demonized precisely because he is an impolitic politician. His son's message is virtually the same, but Rand recognizes the politics of the situation and realizes how something will look or sound to the general public -- no matter how ethical the premise, it can be blackened by people who don't understand it.
Ron Paul leans libertarian and there was an interesting comentary on the psychological profile of libertarians in the Washington Examiner today -- summed up, libertarians are often cerebral loners, but they are most often correct in the long run. Conservatives, however, are usually happier more social people.
