Dan Fagan, the conservative talk show host who lately spends much of his three-hour radio show slamming U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski and extolling the virtues of Republican Joe Miller, has been yanked off the air.
About halfway through Fagan's show Thursday afternoon, a caller phoned in to say he had just registered as a write-in candidate in the Senate race, which includes Miller, Murkowski, and Democrat Scott McAdams. The caller's provocation -- and the reason Fagan liked the idea -- was the fact that the Division of Elections has been providing voters who ask with a list of the write-in candidates. By flooding that list with everyone from Michael Ames to Kathy Jo Zurek, the thinking goes, Murkowski's name will be harder to find.
"I said that's a great idea, more people should do that," Fagan said Friday. Fagan gave the addresses of the Anchorage and Wasilla offices of the Division of Elections and urged his listeners to drive over and register as write-in candidates.
Fagan said a member of the Murkowski campaign called his general manager, Dennis Bookey, to say that Fagan had been electioneering and should be taken off the air. Fagan said Bookey said he was off the air today and they would evaluate the situation Monday.
Fagan broadcasts on KFQD 750, which is owned by Morris Communications, a media company headquartered in Georgia.
"Bottom line is that Lisa Murkowski is a very powerful person, and she has succeeded in taking me off the air the Friday before the election," Fagan said. "It's impressive."
But while Fagan is positive Murkowski is behind his getting yanked, the Murkowski campaign said they didn't have anything to do with it, according to Murkowski spokesman Steve Wackowski.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
“This guy’s giving us trouble. Too bad if something were to happen to him”
Nazi police state stuff. “Say whatever you like, just don’t say anything you don’t like.” Remember when we had a First Amendment? Those were the days.
People most generally don’t care much for sore losers and Murkowski certainly is one of them.
Boycott that station and all stations owned by that media company.
You only get away with electioneering if your the black first lady or black Sheila Jackson....
I hope Rush picks up on this and gives the guy a shot as a substitute on EIB sometime. Anyone who comes up with his very own version of Operation Chaos and makes it work deserves no less!
Wackowski. Register him, too.
Alaskan Mafia strikes again
Please God let Joe Miller win this race. This woman makes me sick!
All he was doing is encouraging citizens to run for office, taking part in our great Republic. Shouldn’t everyone run if they want to?
I don’t see a problem with encouraging citizen civic involvement
Electioneering is what talk radio hosts do and its protected speech just like those impartial endorsements from the NYT. I bet that this guy is sure glad he’s got Obamacare right now.
You just gotta know the coked nose skank is behind it.
I don’t believe this will be taken well by the voters of Alaska.
oh, come on !!! No one outside AK would have heard of Fagan without this. He probably will get a substitute gig for Rush or Sean or Mark. And he will deserve it.
The station manager seems to have made a short-term decision, subject to review. It’s not the media company decision, yet. So why don’t we just hold our horses?
OUTRAGEOUS!
What, if anything do you all know about *this*?
Dan Fagan, of all radio hosts!
Thanks, Black Agnes.
One can hope so.
I hope it will inspire a HUGE backlash!!!
Murkowski will lose more votes than she might gain over this action.
That she doesn't realize this is further proof of how out of touch she (and Washington) are with us (and the rest of the country).
Lisa, baby, when the gravy train comes to a sudden stop, it makes a real mess.
How do u know the media company did not call the station manager? Do u work for that station? Do u have some inside connection?
The fact is YOU DON’T Know.
The fact is he was fired from his job by this station. I’ll leave it up the people who live and advertise with that station to decide for themselves. Good enough for ya?
