Juan Williams and President Obama’s grandmother

'Mom, look: ghosts!' - screamed my little boy when he was four on a playground pointing at few mothers dressed in traditional Islamic outfits.

I guess he will never work for the National Public Radio. NPR fired Juan Williams, liberal journalist and commentator, over the following remark made on O’Reilly Factor:

'I mean, look, Bill, I'm not a bigot. You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country, but when I get on a plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they're identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous'.
The NPR shouldn’t have disowned Juan Williams whose remark fell into the category of President Obama’s grandmother:
'I can no more disown him [Rev. Wright] than I can my white grandmother - a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.

These people are a part of me. And they are a part of America, this country that I love.'

We should be able to discuss honestly our struggles with stereotypes without being afraid of losing our job. If we keep hiding the truth the solutions for our problems will be based on lies and most likely will not work.

If the military bans the homosexuals from service I will agree.

Is that how you supposedly fought socialism? By agreeing? That was your claim.

Communism was toppled in when - 1989? And BB has small children in school. My DH escaped communism in the early 80s, he is now in his early 50s. The time frames a bit funny here. He did help fight communism with underground papers and such, and loathes the homosexual agenda!

According to BB, she was 27 when she came to the US in 2000. The big collapse of Communism started in the fall of 1989 and the USSR was dissolved in December of 1991. BB was maybe 17 or 18.

I would support the military decision - ban is a fast way to evaluate a group of people. I would prefer individual assessment of the people, but ban policy is an honest policy - not like DADT.

BB has exited the building.

The delicate dancing around the fact that she did indeed support homosexuals in the military did not help her.

BB - if you are still reading, it is true that honesty is the best policy. But you did not walk the walk of honesty; you deliberately tried to appear as though you were not pushing for homosexuals in the military, but that is exactly what you were doing.

Please read the links I posted above and open your mind as to why homosexuals who by definition are mentally ill should not be in the military.

I am very conservative, I lived in the communist USSR and I am strongly fiscally conservative, pro- free market, pro-freedom, proud to be an American person. Free Republic is a great forum and I enjoy the conversation.

You neglected to mention socially and morally conservative. Being fiscally conservative is nice, but the rot from within is what's going to take this nation down. Being morally and socially conservative is essential of this country is going to survive. That means being pro-life and pro-marriage, anti-abortion, anti-euthanasia, anti-homosexual agenda and marriage.
