IBD's Capital Hill ^ | 9/17/2010 | Sean Higgins

Veteran election analyst Charlie Cook has backed away from his earlier prediction that control of the Senate was in play in this election. In light of Tuesday’s Delaware Republican primary, Cook says the odds now overwhelmingly favor the Democrats retaining their Senate majority:

I agree with most of your list, though at this point, I’d consider WVa and CT to lean democrat. “Tossup” is a bit generous. We’ll see, though.

Disregard. You had it right.

Idiotic statement. Or they are scared as hell.

People like Cook, Sabato, etc. not only lean to the left but they are basing their projections on models. Those models are based on recent election results, including 2008 when Democrats swamped Republicans as badly as I hope Republicans swamp Democrats in 2010.

So, when they tell you that so-and-so can’t win or that such-and-such leans Democrat, they are basing it on pre-Obama presidency voting patterns. That pattern probably still holds in commie-left meccas like Berzerkley and Boulder but it’s a different electorate in the rest of America and these pundits are well behind the curve.

I think that we will pick up between 10 and 12 net Senate seats (and I’m not counting DE). A 10-seat pickup gives us a majority.

Hey. I'll admit I'm bias. But I really do think a 5 point lead for us is 'Lean.' While a 5 point lead for a Dem is tossup. Just based on expected turnout models.

This is not a normal election year.

We can starve all the socialist programs in the House and we wouldn't have a majority big enough to over-ride The One’s veto.

Thank you. Exactly what I have been saying. Add to that, defunding some government agencies outright. EPA (no CO2 BS,) depts. of Education and Energy and whatever your heart desires.

This could be done in a week without a Republican Senate or 0b0z0's dirty hoof touching what could have been "bills."

BS! All the commies tell us this.

When Republicans run conservatives, every citizen wins.

When Republicans run Dems in RINO clothing, every citizen loses.

No I have the FACTS down. You Rovebots are stuck on stupid and doing everything you can to sabotage her. That is YOUR doing. Too bad for you, we Conservative hold people accountable for their actions.

You have a easy way out. Shut up. Quit trying to do everything you can to sabotage her just because YOUR pet candidate lost. This petulant childish behavior of you Rovebots trying to sabotage her just because your side lost is the problem here.

You are not "just the messengers" when you continue the lying accusations after the O'Donnell camp posted the documented proof refuting your lies on their website.

You Rovebots have now have crossed over to actively working as propaganda agents for the Coons campaign now.

We are going to remember that after Nov.

Wonder how Cali and WA voters are going to react when the news of the Tsumami starts rolling in before the polls close?

So either way the Roveites here are creating a lose-lose position for themselves

They would rather lose the Senate,in order to maintain control of the party.(this is a gain in their eyes)
Just as the Democrats would rather lose the War, just to get back control of the country.(a gain in their eyes at the expense of the country, in other words traitors)

I didn't even think about that. Hopefully the liberal media haven't either or this could be the first election where they keep their mouths zipped until the entire country votes.

Agreed. It seems the pollsters are having trouble accounting for the dynamics transforming the electorate. In every case I can think of the conservative candidate has done better than the polls indicated.

Conventional wisdom was a turnout of over 20% in DE was the kiss of death for O’Donnell. It turned out being 31% and Castle got smoked even though he outspent Christine by roughly 5 to 1.

The dims are disillusioned even more than the establishment pubbies. I think calling November’s results are going to be even trickier than the primaries.

Since you want to continue this fight. Please explain why we should trust you Rovebots on anything considering the conflict of interest your god has concealed from the people?

Karl Rove is lying when he bills himself as “just a political analyst” to Fox News. The 9-12 project has confirmed that Rove contacted them trying to get them to switch their support to Castle. Rove has a documented link to the Castle campaign. He was a defacto, if not paid, Castle campaign agent.

By continuing to bill himself as "just a messenger" while concealing his links to the Castle camp, he is lying by omission.

So since your source is prove a liar in this matter, what else is he lying to us about?

He may be correct. I don’t think so, but even if he is that would not be the worst thing that could happen. In reality, if the republicans win the Senate by a 1 vote margin, they will not be able to get any legislation past a presidential veto. Also, and most importantly, with a 1 vote margin, Senators Snow, Collins, and Brown would immediately become the most powerful members of the Senate. Graham and McCain would be able to cross the isle and work with their good friends. If the republicans can pick up as many as 5 to 6 reliable members, they will be able to use the filibuster as a block against any legislation. With 5 to 6 more reliable members, Senators Snow, Collins, and Brown will suddenly become totally irrelevant and Graham and McCain will be kept in line.

Control of committees and the agenda in the Senate would be a plus, but control of the House of Representatives is much more important. A reliable filibuster in the Senate might is some ways be better than weak control.
