It's a very tough call...probably Hannibal in the ancient days. In modern times, Robert E. Lee; Georgy Zhukov; Erwin Rommel; and yes, Patton, could all be considered.
Zhukov led the largest mass army in history...of course he had General Winter's help at a critical moment.
