Lincoln And The Death Of The Constitution
Wolves of Liberty ^ | 9/7/2010 | gjmerits

The Gettysburg speech was at once the shortest and the most famous oration in American history...the highest emotion reduced to a few poetical phrases. Lincoln himself never even remotely approached it. It is genuinely stupendous. But let us not forget that it is poetry, not logic; beauty, not sense. Think of the argument in it. Put it into the cold words of everyday. The doctrine is simply this: that the Union soldiers who died at Gettysburg sacrificed their lives to the cause of self-determination - that government of the people, by the people, for the people, should not perish from the earth. It is difficult to imagine anything more untrue. The Union soldiers in the battle actually fought against self-determination; it was the Confederates who fought for the right of their people to govern themselves.

You never did answer my question from post #745:

"So, if several Southern states were to secede tomorrow, who would you stand with? Us or obama?"

the South Carolina negotiators began with pre-conditions.

Unlike you obamabots who would meet with anybody without preconditions.

I would stand with the United States. This nation is larger than any one man or party, hard as that may be for you to comprehend. You will no doubt swear feality to whatever leader your new confederacy appoints over you. Tis the Southron way.

And paying lip service to that old adage..."consent of the Governed". Tis the Northron Way.

United by what exactly, Non-Sequitur? Mutual respect and brotherly love - or - Cold Indifference, regional differences and force? That isn't that "United"... More like "Forced"...

But the nation is not larger than the state(s). They are equals.

Except in your Orwellian view where some states are more equal than others.

Tell me, was the option for the United States to retain it’s forts, armories lighthouses, post offices, etc, on the table?

Because you're still stuck in the past, let me bring you up to speed on a couple of important details.

The United States has been overrun by the likes of you and obama's socialists. There is little or no hope of ever regaining our representative republic. The swapping of a few seats in the House and Senate in November ain't gonna make a hill of beans difference in the direction the country is going, i.e. towards your socialist utopia.

If any states decide to leave your socialist utopia, it will be the Southern conservative states and a few western states, such as Arizona and Wyoming. Elected leaders will look more like Sarah Palin and Jim DeMint, who I'm sure that you disagree with. We'll leave you with obama and biden, whom I'm sure that you adore.

Upon such a split, the northern half, the remainder of the United States, will slip rapidly into communism. (Tis the northron way.) No doubt that your boy, obama, will, in pure Lincolnesque form, launch military action against the peacefully seceding states.

So, based on all the above, including your slippery statements, if battle lines are drawn, and one were to glass the northron battle line from the Southern viewpoint, he would see standing next to obama, the President of the United States, the disgraceful, despicable waste of human flesh, non-sequitur.

I so look forward to seeing you on the battlefield. It'll be just like old times: the South fighting for freedom and independence and the north attempting to 'preserve the union' at gunpoint.

I don't think NS understands the concept of a people grounded in the foundation of truth, and those that have chosen to sink in the murky ground of lies.

Our 1776 Declaration Of Independence from England was merely an acknowledgment of a truth already in place. England had abandoned her role as protector of the colonies a long time ago, and had chosen to devour her charge instead.

The colonies merely acknowledged this fact. Then England, in the true form of the abusive parent, sought to punish and silence the child that noticed.

Sound familiar?

Quite the contrary. I've watched you and your Lost Cause buddies spread your murky lies and Southron myths for years now. You are a people with only the most tenuous grasp on reality, lost in a fantasy world of your own making.

Our 1776 Declaration Of Independence from England was merely an acknowledgment of a truth already in place. England had abandoned her role as protector of the colonies a long time ago, and had chosen to devour her charge instead.

Oh not that 'the colonies peacefully seceded' crap again?

Sound familiar?

All too familiar. And no closer to reality than the last time you offered it.

With geniuses like cowboyway and Idabilly and mstar, ably led by sterling leaders such as central_va, how can they possibly lose? I can see the statues of their new crop of warrior-heroes already.

I forgot to copy the post I had answered. Here it is;

I'm reminded of Patrick Henry:

This Constitution is said to have beautiful features; but when I come to examine these features, sir, they appear to me horribly frightful. Among other deformities, it has an awful squinting; it squints toward monarchy, and does not this raise indignation in the breast of every true American? Your president may easily become king.

................. What will then become of you and your rights? Will not absolute despotism ensue?

NS; "And no closer to reality than the last time you offered it."

Truth doesn't change. It can not be spun into a media friendly "flavor of the day" fix for the bored and jaded.
