Challenge Accepted: Conservative gay organization head agrees to debate WorldNetDaily editor
The Daily Caller ^ | September 4, 2010 Updated September 5, 2010 | Chris Moody

Posted on 09/05/2010 10:56:10 AM PDT by Kaslin

In the wake of a dispute between WorldNetDaily editor Joseph Farah and conservative author Ann Coulter over her decision to headline an event sponsored by GOProud, a gay conservative organization, Farah and GOProud Chairman Christopher Barron will square off in a debate later this month at WND’s convention.

Barron told The Daily Caller that Farah challenged him to debate over whether GOProud can be considered “conservative” after Farah argued on his site that there is no place within conservatism for an organization like GOProud, a group that promotes itself as “the only national organization representing gay conservatives and their allies.” TheDC is waiting for confirmation from WND about the debate’s details.

Farah dropped Coulter from a speaking engagement at WND’s annual “Taking America Back” convention in Miami for agreeing to speak at GOProud’s “Homocon” party in New York. (Coulter later said that Farah had never actually booked her for a speech, calling him a “swine” and a “publicity whore.”)

Farah contends that groups like GOProud are trying to commit a “coup” to unroot the conservative movement with an “agenda…to take the homosexual agenda inside the conservative tent.”

Barron insists that his group is genuinely conservative and said he looks forward taking on Farah in front of a WND crowd.

“Since we announced that conservative author and columnist Ann Coulter would be headlining our Homocon 2010 in New York City, Farah has attacked GOProud, attacked Ann, and challenged our work almost every single day,” Barron said in a statement to The Daily Caller. “I look forward to standing on the stage with Mr. Farah to defend GOProud, to debunk the misinformation he has spread, and to make the case for GOProud’s conservative mission.”

Barron added that conservatism stands at a major crossroads in its acceptance of gays into the movement. A number of high profile conservatives, including Lisa De Pasquale of the Conservative Political Action Conference, Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform and former General Counsel to the National Republican Senatorial Committee Craig Engle, have signed on as official sponsors of GOProud’s event.

The debate will be held on September 17 at 7:30 PM at the Doral Golf and Spa Resort in Miami, Florida.

Why would any real Conservative worry about what two consenting adults do in the own bedroom?

They don't.

They worry about it when homosexuals want special rights.

They worry about it when homosexuals want homosexual marriage legally recognized.

They worry about it when homosexuals want it taught that it's an acceptable lifestyle alternative to kindergarteners.

They worry about it when what's supposed to be a private act between two consenting adults in the privacy of their own bedroom is lauded and trumpeted in the streets and shoved in our faces daily.

They're hypocrites. If it's done in the privacy of their own bedrooms and nobody else's business, then why do they keep making it everybody else's business? Keep it there like they say it should be and stop rubbing our noses in it and demanding that it be accepted as normal. It's not. It's not morally and it's not biologically.

I think my post had only one part that could be called an insult, even that is questionable because it is a fact.

OTH, Billy B. posted several insults towards Coulter as well as misrepresenting her.

Ya know most of the words in my post to BB were his.

Opinions are one thing, misrepresenting and character assassination of someone because you have a different “opinion” is another.

Sometimes when someone spews that type of garbage about someone I know and like I'll chime in.

there is no debate on this.
they’re not conservatives.
they’re liberals and homo’s looking to split the GOP on this issue.

Those who come out with the naive crap of well I know a couple and they’re nice, they just want to be left alone and be married had better wake the hell up as they’re helping them to push their agenda into our schools, our laws, our faces etc

Here’s a few, and your “non-endorsement” endorsement is of the same category as “lie back and take it since it’s inevitable and it won’t hurt anyway”. Weaselwords.

Do I think it will be the end of the military? No.
I honestly don’t think things will change that much.
Face it, most young people enlisting these days have been indoctrinated to some degree towards acceptance of gays. They went to school with gays. They have friends and family members who have come out gay. If they joined the military later in life, they left jobs with openly gay co-workers. Their “gaydar” works. We all know exactly who in our commands are gay and many of these gays are already half out of the closet, careful only to not tread too far over the line and jeopardize their career.
This isn’t an endorsement of anything, that’s just the way it is.
Dire predictions of straight service members fleeing the armed forces because the berthings and barracks have been turned into bacchanalian orgies of gay sex are just ridiculous. It’s not going to happen. The military will still remain by nature a little more conservative than society in general with certain expected standards of behavior. Most of us knew this day would come the next time a Democrat took office anyways so it’s not like this change is coming as a great shock.

How about polling the people it really affects - soldiers?
Military Times did. 49% of active duty service members support letting gays serve openly. This is up from 42% in 2008 which was up from 37% in 2003.
Why is this number rising? Well, I suspect that today’s young recruits are much more, for lack of a better word, “indoctrinated” into acceptance of gay lifestyles. They went to school where they had friends and acquaintances who were openly gay and where tolerance was drummed into their heads by teachers and peer pressure. They’ve had family members come out as openly gay. If they had civilian jobs prior to enlisting, they likely had openly gay co-workers and worked for companies with established anti-discrimination policies, companies they’ll return to after the service.
Eventually, as polls are trending, opposition to openly gays serving among active duty military will be the minority opinion.

I think the career military folks have already said allowing gays to serve openly will decimate the services of experienced personnel.
Not in this economy.

Even in this economy, the conservative Scots-Irish males from the South who make up the backbone of the military would be loathe to be serve in a lavender military run by screaming mustachioed feministas and gay men
And you’re currently serving where?
Anyways, I hope you’re right. I could use a few more AO1 slots to open up next exam cycle. Nonetheless, my observation here in today’s navy is far different from the point you presented. Sure, some may loath the idea but are they going to run for the exits? Not anyone who has career aspirations. And in this economy, the military is a pretty damn good career.

I wonder what percentage of the population would vote to have themselves share an open shower with homosexuals? It’s really nice of them to choose that for the brave young men and women who have volunteered to protect this country.
Most of these brave young men and women have already shared showers with homosexuals. They may or may not have known about it (but everyone pretty much already knows who the gay people in their commands are).

It’s nice that FR does not have an “edit your comments after they’re posted” feature the way some sites have.

Lying doesn’t pay.

On Post 109 you claimed that I've stated "homosexuals in the military is just fine and won’t harm the military at all."

And on Post 127 you claimed that "On FR (I) have supported homosexuals in the military."

I'm waiting.

Lying doesn’t pay.

Lying?

The first four posts you found have me arguing that service members aren't going to flee the military if DADT is repealed. I stand by that. The fifth post has me stating that gays already serve in the military and most of the people they serve with already know they're gay. I stand by that as well.

Now you tell me where on FR have I claimed that gays won't hurt the military and where on FR have I supported gays in the military?

Those are the accusations you made against me.

I won't be holding my breath.
