Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Americans United for Life is targeting three pro-abortion Democrats in tight election contests with radio ads talking about abortion issues. The ads are also meant to be the first by the group following a Supreme Court decision striking down some of the McCain-Feingold advertising limits.
AUL Action, a 501(c)4 lobbying organization, has its ads set on Reps. John Boccieri of Ohio, Christopher Carney of Pennsylvania and Baron Hill of Indiana
They are meant to test the latitude given to such groups to communicate with the public about candidates in the Supreme Court's decision in January overturning provisions of the campaign finance legislation limiting the rights of citizens groups like AUL.
Before the ruling, AUL has to stick to issue ads about elected officials but could not wander into the debate over which candidate should be approved for certain federal offices.
The Associated Press obtained audio clips of the ads from a Republican strategist and AUL has confirmed the authenticity of them. The ads are one-minute in length and slated to begin Friday and run for one week criticizing the abortion advocates for supporting the pro-abortion health care bill.
AUL Action President Charmaine Yoest said in a statement about the ads, according to the Associated Press, the vote amounted to "the largest expansion of federal funding of abortion ever."
"They will not be able to hide from that vote any longer," she said.
The ads have a female narrator saying, "The life of an innocent child may not matter" to Boccieri, Hill and Carney. "It's time to send someone to Washington who shares our values, not Nancy Pelosi's."
AUL's analysis during the health care debate indicated the bill funded abortions and the executive order President Barack Obama signed would not prohibit the funding.
Yoest told LifeNews.com in March, "the proposal to address the problem of abortion funding in the health care bill through use of an executive order is a tacit acknowledgement that the bill as it stands is pro-abortion legislation."
"Both the President and the Speaker have repeatedly denied this stark fact," she said.
"Furthermore, the AUL legal team has concluded that an executive order is not an adequate fix to mitigate the Senate bill’s establishment of taxpayer-funded abortion. For example, an executive order cannot prevent insurance companies that pay for abortions in the exchanges from receiving federal subsidies," Yoest
