Every year, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission releases its annual report, informing the president and Congress of the state of equal-employment opportunity in the federal workforce. But critics say the annual report serves one other purpose: It magnifies what is currently wrong with the federal government's EEO system.
The recently released 2009 report reveals a stunning lack of compliance, commitment and accountability by a number of agencies and agency leadershipespecially when compared with the best practices being employed by The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity®.
...
"There is absolutely no accountability for those agencies who do not wish to comply with the regulations,'' says Carol Dawson, president of EEO Guidance, a national consulting and training company based in Jeffersonville, Ind. "There is nobody doing anything about the percent that is not in compliance; there are no consequences whatsoever."
I’m gonna guess from watching TV that 99% of news shows don’t either.
The pro-regulation people shouldn’t speak too loudly. Somebody might realize that things are just as good in those who don’t jump through hoops and file reports as in those who do comply.
It might be revealed that the game is all show and no substance.
The same is true in private industry. I’ve consulted in over 30 Fortune 500 IT shops. Some shops are extremely pro-diversity and extremely into compliance. Other shops are into producing the best product and service for the best price. There is no difference in diversity between those who push diversity and those who don’t.
Why should a government agency be concerned about Federal reports? Heck, congress won’t pass a budget.
