An Obama supporter who has a temp gig at my office has asked me to put in a good word for them (gender-neutral reference) toward a more permanent position.
What to do, what to do?
Politics reflect a person’s judgment and principles. Or not?
Why would you deliberately further empower someone who is opposed to your beliefs?
Acts have consequences.
Anyone who voted for Obama and still would needs to be classified as the “Enemy”. This is the underlying problem with America today....wake up and smell the coffee. Why on earth would you help out someone who shares the same belief system as the progressives from Obama, Pelosi, etc. Why oh why are we always shooting ourselves in the foot in the name of political correctness or by being just plain nice?
This has now turned into a war, like it or not.
I love this answer.
I work with some flaming libs and I just want to shake them until their teeth rattle sometimes. They complain about their fears of not having a job and then spout the "all Bush's fault" crap.
When more of these idiots feel the real pressure of what they have done, maybe some common sense will get through.
If you were the temp ,you should be smart enough to keep your mouth shut about politics ,both office and national, while just concentrating on doing your best at the job you were hired to do!
You’re the one who has to work with them.
Is this a person you want to work with or around?
If so and they are really good in their future position, give them a good reference.
If they are just OK, they don’t really deserve a good reference anyway.
In my opinion, only impressive workers get a good reference.
If they are a good employee, give them the recommendation. It would be petty not to.
Jobs(seeking and keeping) are another good reason NOT to decorate one’s car with bumper sticker and signs.
Give an honest assessment of job performance, don’t base on politics.
martin_fierro,
First, I will help you have understanding. If you are able, mentally go back to the exact place you and this individual were when the person asked you to put in a good word for them and ask yourself what you would have done if you were in this persons shoes. Would you have asked this of another person?
Next, and most important, what did you tell this person? What ever you told this person is your word and you must keep this, this is what you must do. Your other alternative is to go to this person and tell them you cannot do what you first said, apologize, and ask for forgiveness. How this person forgives or does not forgive your offer is now between them and God and you must move on and remember in the future that your word is your bond and value it closely, use it wisely.
Forget petty,think survival.
Why wouldn’t I not..I assume that is the same as why would I?
First of all, I bet that the young lady does not really want to destroy my life.
Because I happen to believe in the Golden Rule. We each have a right to our beliefs. Why leave someone on the unemployment list? That is not what my America is about.
Or, you can simply tell them you're from the party of "NO," and live by that slogan :-)
Anyone who votes for and believes in obama ,pelosi, and their ilk DOES want to destroy your life, even though they (she) may not think of it in those terms.
Okay, I thought the same as most here, that political views do not impact work performance. But hey! We are not lobbyists and morality does matter. I would not hire any of the democrats I worked with. Liars, slacker union lovers, cover my butt, I cover yours - when its not needed - you know what I mean?
Actually, asking the political view point is a quick way to judge morals and ethical standards.
One other thought to keep in mind. If you decide to give a recommendation for this person, word could get out, and you could be approached by others who may request the same from you. Will you be prepared to do it for them as well?
What question did I post? I was asking about your first sentence.
If you don't think the person is going to make a positive contribution, don't make the recommendation.
We didn't get all the details...and you called it shameful.
I think that was jumping the gun.
