This November, it appears that there is an excellent chance that the GOP happily will elect several new, staunchly conservative black congressmen. Actually, I think I'll rewrite that sentence to "several staunchly conservative congressmen who just happen to be black," since happily, racial politics is not what they are all about. I'm wondering if they each plan to join the Congressional Black Caucus, or if they should refuse to do so, or perhaps they won't even be invited to join? Anyone know if Tim Scott, Alan West, and others have addressed the question?
Personally, I'd hope that they would choose NOT to join the CBC, since a caucus based on racial identify is the antithesis of what America is, and should, be all about. As an aside, does anyone recall what JC Watts did when he was in the House?
if they wish to continue the racial divide in the country then join the cbc otherwise set an example and do not join....
do we have a cwc...??...i think not....why do the blacks always have to have their own little group...
I think a white congressman (or better yet, congresswoman) should push to join the CBC.
They can claim that they have a large black constituency, so the need is there.
Watch the fun begin.
The question is, will they let him join, being that he does not adhere to the rule that blacks are only allowed to be Democrats, and lose their cred as blacks if they aren’t.
The CBC wouldn’t let him or her join, anywise.
Absolutely not. The conservative cause is not helped by having any fo us join racist organizations of ANY color.
As soon as they have a “White Caucus”
(wait... that sounds kinda RACIST dontcha think?)
Didn’t sone white Dem liberal try that a while back...I seem to recall it..
Didn’t J. C. Watts try this when he first came to Congress?
The progressives love to put everyone into boxes so that is causes division.
The CBC might be stupid enough to try and bar them...actually, I sort of hope they do...you can’t buy that kind a publicity..
Sure he should join it ... then there is ONE voice behind the closed door that will make “sense.” That’s progress. Maybe he’ll even convince someone else. We start with ONE, then more. It’s called infiltration and one of the tactics you use to overcome a group.
Not only should new black GOP Congressmen join the Congressional Black Caucus, white GOP Congressmen should join it as well. Thanks to Newt Gingrich, the GOP Congress of the mid-90’s removed Congress’ thirty-year-old exemption from the mandates of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
J.C. Watts said they would let him stay for lunch, but had to leave when the meeting started. This makes the CBC not only illegal based on Race, but it is partisan as well.
Sheesh!
Well, you know, any black man who is a Republican can't really be a black man, right? Sort of like how conservative women aren't really women, and all that?
Sad part is, probably greater than 80% of blacks would agree.
The CBC refused to allow their fellow traveler and fellow idiot Pete Stark to join several years ago. This is a racist, partisan organization that is being funded by US taxpayers. JC Watts refused to joined.
Yes. For the soundbites alone.
I remember Gary Franks (R-CT) saying the only reason the CBC let him join was to make him a kind of liaison to GHW Bush. He didn't use this term, but the implication was that they treated him like/considered him a house *n*. Nice. [/s]
“why do the blacks always have to have their own little group...”
When the Black Students Union in our local community college demanded a special room where they could openly smoke pot during the day, they almost got it.
The argument was that it was needed because they suffered a unique “jones” that non-blacks just couldn’t understand.
However, the Alameda County Sheriffs Dept. had other ideas, and it was never finalized.
I thought the whole premise pretty hilarious at the time. Too bad the victimhood thinking hasn’t changed, some 35+ years later...
