In a shocking display of common sense and responsibility, Californeeya's Governator Arnold Schwartzenegger has ordered that state workers be put on minimum wage of $7.25 and hour, until the state legislature passes a budget. I haven't been too impressed with much that the Governator's done in office, but this was a good call, in a broken-clock-is-right-twice-a-day kinid of way. Besides, that's where most state workers should be anyway, IMO - I mean, they're civil servants, right?
At any rate, this puts Schwartzenegger in a category of being way more responsible than Obama, who has let the US Congress dally and delay - they've basically just refused to pass one for 2011. What a slimy way to hide the truth from us all. Put another way, Obama and the Washington Dems are so bad, that they make the worst (Republican) Governor in America look great by comparison.

All government workers should be on minimum wage.

Maybe a lot of them will go hungry and stop paying their bills, and not show up for work at all

While I agree that salaries are too high in many areas, you can’t honestly tell me that a high-level worker who actually does their job well should be paid the same as some stooge who answers the phone at the front desk.

Yeah, we shouldn’t gloat. All of our overseers should be very generously compensated by money extracted from us by force. Fair is fair.
then you would get the most efficient prison guards, troopers, license issuers, maintenance workers, permit reviewers etc- that money can buy for $7.50
I support it in the sense that I’d support a furlough - a temporary move to force the hand of the legislature.
However, many government workers (state and Fed) are good hard workers just trying to make a living like the rest of us. There is a large chunk that just shows up for a paycheck and doesn’t contribute much - THOSE should ultimately be shaved off the payroll, but don’t punish everyone.
The highest paid people receiving government paychecks should be military members.
In this depression caused by government action, why not?

Then maybe the governor should be paid minimum wage. I can’t speak for all “government workers”, but the ones I deal with where I live (NC) are very good and work hard. Obviously the employees could not survive on minimum wage and it is not right to make them suffer through no fault of their own. Would you want to be paid minimum wage?

Yeah. And as soon as some phony budget passes, those missed wages will be made up, probably with INTEREST!!!!
