[Yes, I hate World Cup soccer too. But, nevertheless, this is how The New York Times like to view the world.

Africa’s Last World Cup Hope Is Ghana

By JERÉ LONGMAN Published: June 25, 2010

PRETORIA, South Africa — The six African teams in the World Cup have been whittled to one, meaning that Ghana will carry a continent’s hopes when it faces the United States in the Round of 16 on Saturday in Rustenburg. Related

What remains to be seen is whether Ghana will find that expectation to be an inspiration or a burden.

“I hope we can benefit,” said Milovan Rajevac, a Serb who coaches the West African nation.

Yet the other teams from the continent seemed to have been weighed down by anticipation of success. South Africa, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Nigeria have departed. Only Ghana remains, a surprise to some given that its best player, midfielder Michael Essien, is absent with a knee injury.

I assume they backed Russian collective farms - that starved millions - over capitalism... Did they back us or the Germans in World War II - I forgot...

In my defense, why in God’s name would the New York Times publish a story entitled: The New York Times Roots for Ghana over US?

I posted it under “bloggers and personal.” It has my own editorial spin.

We (Australia) drew with Ghana with only 10 men. The USA should beat them by what I have seen! You are playing really good football and as long as you can keep their centre forward under control you should win and win well!

It would be racist to defeat the African team.
