Here is video of Sean Hannity interviewing veteran Philadelphia newsman Larry Kane, the man who broke the Sestak Job Offer story with an interview he did of Joe Sestak on February 20 of this year. Heres what Kane asked Sestak that got the entire story going:
KANE: Were you ever offered a Federal Job to get out of this race?
SESTAK: Yes.
KANE: Was it Navy Secretary?
SESTAK: No Comment.
KANE: Was there a job offered by the White House?
SESTAK: Yes. Uh, Someone offered.
KANE: It was big, right?
SESTAK: It was . . . something I wont comment on (hard to distinguish his words)
Kane immediately contacted the White House for comment, and 15 hours later they called him back and told him he could say on background that Sestaks claim of a job offer is not true.
Kanes sources inside the Democrat Party had told him before the interview that pressure had been put on Sestak to get out of the race against Specter.
Kane also said there is no question that the job offered him was a high-ranking job, which would not line up with what the White House is now claiming Bill Clinton offered to Sestak for them.

I just wonder by reading this interview (and hearing it several times): Was Sestak coyly allowing Kane and others to think it was something "bigger" than it really was? Did he think the bigger the offer he was thought to have turned down, the bigger the hero he would be in the eyes of Pennsylvania voters? Did it backfire on him when it turned out to be illegal and he ended up getting the wrong kind of attention? This would have been typical candidate behavior. Yet - Why was Clinton involved?

Isn’t that exactly the way the Clinton WH operated... get someone to dishonor themselves, then hang it around their neck... they are good at it too. Its like living under the hierarchy of hell, once you’ve served your purpose, you get thrown into the bottomless pit.

Your questions and suspicions are on track, I think. If there in fact was only the lesser offer of a panel appointment (both not for the White House to offer and still illegal under the statute prohibiting any interference in an election), it doesn't make any sense for Bubba to be involved. So the alternative explanations are that either Bubba was involved because it was a bigger gig or the White House contacted Sestak directly about the minor job and has since thrown Clinton into the mix as a middleman, naively thinking that makes it ok.
Bottom line is that this must be watched closely and pressure needs to stay on all all players (Obama, Clinton, Sestak, Emanuel) until someone finally cracks (or slips up).

I’m no fan of Obama or Clinton, but no one MADE the admiral lie, if that’s what he did. In politispeak: he can take responsibility for that!
