I would disagree with your characterization. I’ve been to PR many times and I’ve never found them to be America-hating.

And not necessarily Democrats either. Many Puerto Ricans are very conservative, almost like Cubans.

They have the best of both worlds right now: the protection and freedoms of the US, without the taxes and headaches. I hope they don’t screw this one up.

However, if they vote for statehood, how ‘bout a swap? Does one of the current states get to leave? Like TX, OK, UT ?

I repeat — let’s at least have time for debate. The vote is today. Why the rush?

I don't recall Eskimos or Hawaiians committing 150 acts of terrorism to remain independent [FALN]. I could be wrong on that, but there is a strong independent streak in Puerto Rico which I respect. I love mountain lions, but I don't invite them in my house.

I was a manager at a workshop for the disabled a few years ago and supervised a janitor who was from PR. One of the many liberal teachers there wanted to drive him to the polls and help him vote Democrat. He told me that he told her he was not voting for the Democrat and did not like his views on many issues. He was voting for Jeb Bush.
