“Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik calls Senate Bill 1070 a “stupid law” that will force officers to start profiling”

I haven’t read the whole law, but does it say anything about profiling? If not, then how would it “force” the police to start profiling? I was under the impression that the officer had to have “reason to believe” the suspect is in Arizona illegally.

It seems to me that the problem is just procedural. If the Sheriff is uncomfortable with questioning people solely based on race, why not just instruct his officers to have additional compelling reasons.

From what I've heard, the law forbids profiling. It requires that anyone who is arrested must, before being released, provide evidence of legal residence.

...it actually is specific against profiling. This guy must have a huge population of people harboring illegals where he presides or something.
