My thinking is the author is just trying to warn folks that they, too, could be hoodwinked by a slick talking salesman on the right

The author is having a whine just because he didn't see the Tea Partiers at the rally trashing Sarah Palin. That's stupid. This rally was about taking out Harry Reid in November. Why the heck would any Tea Partier go to an anti-Harry Reid, anti-0bamcare rally, just so they can trash Palin? That will be like defeating the entire purpose of the rally and handing the Democrats and Reid enough talking points to last them to November.

Where did he say people should be trashing Palin? There's a difference between warning against Obama-like idol worship and saying someone should be trashed.

Well, there are a lot of people wishing for Sarah Palin to be trashed and a lot of people who suddenly don't like Palin because she's been so supportive of McCain. A lot of them have tried to trash Sarah, but she keeps coming out on top and usually leaving whoever is doing the trashing looking like a boneheaded idiot. Rush has a unique ability to do that, too.

I take from the article that the author is concerned that we might be headed for another Perot moment. The conditions certainly are ripe for it.

Good point. Some people fail to realize that we need to come together this year to remove Democrats from office before we focus on vetting the potential 2012 Presidential candidates. At this point we do not even know who those candidates will be. I think that the time for a critique of Sarah Palin as a possible leader should wait until after 2010 and only take place if she decides to run for President. She just may decide to pursue a media career as a way to promote the conservative cause. (When she stepped down as Governor of Alaska she did say that one does not need to hold a political office to promote the cause)
