Conflicting signs on pro-life Democrat Rep. Bart Stupak’s stance on Obamacare negotiations:
Plus: At a town hall meeting last night, he told constituents that the briber-in-chief had invited him to the president’s box to watch a Russian opera performance. Stupak said he turned down the invite.
Minus: He told an AP reporter in between meetings yesterday that he’s growing “more optimistic” that he can cut a deal on government abortion funding in the bill that will make him happy.
Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) said the White House and the Democratic leadership in the House of Representatives have been pressuring him not to speak out on the “compromise” abortion language in the Senate version of the health care bill.
They think I shouldnt be expressing my views on this bill until they get a chance to try to sell me the language, Stupak told CNSNews.com in an interview on Tuesday. Well, I dont need anyone to sell me the language. I can read it. Ive seen it. Ive worked with it. I know what it says. I dont need to have a conference with the White House. I have the legislation in front of me here.
…In his interview with CNSNews.com on Tuesday, Stupak said that the White House “asked me just to hold off for awhile and not to say anything about this language. But as soon as the news broke that they had this [compromise], and they got the 60 votes, folks were asking me, and Im not going to run from the issue Im going to stand up and say, Look, heres my objections.’ Here its not just my objections but theres a number of my [colleagues] who feel strongly about this issue, and these are the parts that have to be fixed.
Stupak said he is not alone in being pressured from the White House and the House Democratic leadership other pro-life Democratic colleagues apparently are, as well. But they plan to hold firm, he said.
Were getting a lot of pressure not to say anything, to try to compromise this principle or belief, Stupak said. [T]hats just not us. Were not going to do that. Members who voted for the Stupak language in the House especially the Democrats, 64 Democrats that voted for it feel very strongly about it. Its been part of who we are, part of our make up. Its the principle belief that we have. We are not just going to abandon it in the name of health care.”
“We are not just going to abandon it in the name of health care.”
Good time to remind him of his words.

Yes. DUH!
Oh please...he’s a DEMOCRAT, isn’t he!!! What’s that about bears and popes??
Stupak could be playing for time — stall ball, in effect. He hates the Senate bill, but is being primaried from the Left. If he can delay, delay and delay through conversation with Hoyer until March 27, he knows that the House — when it reconvenes in mid-April, will have no appetite for Bocare.
He can be bought. I’ve always been of the opinion he was a bit of a fraud. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t find a way to get this through.
Stupak probably gave somebody a wedgy in highschool, and Rahm will make him pay for straying off the Democrat reservation.
I shook my magic Eight Ball and it says, “It is decidedly so.”
I think the date is earlier than April, and earlier than March 27. 0bama leaves for on a trip to bow before foreign despots and otherwise continue his international buffoonery. He leaves March 18, which is why he gave Congress his Imperial Ultimatum. That’s only about a week away.
I’ve been debating whether the GOP needs to run a full-court press on the vote. They know that as of today, 216 yes votes aren’t there. So why not call out the dems and demand a vote earlier, and ask that it be voted down now? Today? That way they can flush out the democrat leadership and watch them go into overdrive with their bribes, and the people will go berserk.
Do not count on stupak.
I will give him the benefit of the doubt. YUK!!
If he goes, is it automatic the rest of his crew will vote yes? Maybe that’s a rhetorical question.
If the House changes the abortion wording in the Senate Bill does that mean it has to go back to the Senate? I thought the House could not make any changes to the Senate Bill, if they did had to go back the Senate for another vote?
The eight ball shows a visit for a naked man!
If they change the Senate bill, the Senate must vote again. What they are trying to get him to do is agree to support the current bill in return for a promise to “fix it” later that will never see the light of day.
The usual price, thirty pieces of silver; the going rate for a slave.
And Stupak will buy into the con and tell his constituents down the road, in his best Louis Renault voice, “I’m shocked. Shocked to discover the bill wouldn’t be fixed!”
Since the leaderships whole idea is a MUCH more radicalized version of the bill -single payer, abortions etc., it’s hard to believe they could take their word on making good on the apparent “fixes”. I think there’s some serious ‘Stimulus’ money being promised.
The minority party in the House cannot call for a vote on anything, except under a special discharge petition, which is rare.
Every day that goes by that Pelosi doesn’t schedule a vote means she doesn’t have the votes.
She won’t schedule a vote that she would lose and thereby subject her members to greater vulnerability.
The March 18 thing is delusion-speak from BO at the White House. Hoyer already tossed away that date earlier today.
