This is what happens when you try to pass off heresay and bull**** as science. The experts need to get off their asses and do some real research. Having a grip on reality is kind of important when you’re dealing with science. Pimping myths and fairy tales as science just doesn’t work.
What is DOES do is create suspicion among folks whose science education was woefully inadequate, and who need to rely on the veracity of the scientists, when they're making public statements. If they find the scientists are hoodwinking them, or pushing a political agenda, they'll just stop believing ALL scientists, even when those scientists DO have data to support their contentions.
It is not a good thing for the future of the country, where many important decisions rely on some knowledge of science, or at least a trust of science, for the average voter to NOT be able to believe in science or by extension, scientists.
