In the midst of the tragedy and chaos in the Haitian capital, Israeli doctors, part of IsraAID -F.I.R.S.T. (the Israel Forum for International Aid), delivered a healthy baby boy in an IDF field hospital. When the baby's grateful mother, Gubilande Jean Michel saw her newborn son, alive and well, she named him Israel in gratitude to the people and nation who brought her this blessing.
Little Israel is one of the hundreds who have been saved by Israeli doctors or rescue teams. A search and rescue team from the ZAKA Israel's International Rescue Unit pulled eight Haitian college students from a collapsed eight-story university building. Despite its small size, Israel sent a large contingent of highly-trained aid workers to quake-stricken Haiti. Two jumbo jets carrying more than 220 doctors, nurses, civil engineers, and other Israeli army personnel, including a rescue team and field hospital, were among the first rescue teams to arrive in Haiti. In fact, they were the first foreign backup team to set up medical treatment at the partially collapsed main hospital in Port-au-Prince. Yigal Palmor, Israel's Foreign Ministry spokesman said, "It's a large delegation and we're prepared to send more."
The international agencies that condemn Israel for its "disproportionate response" when it is attacked are not mentioning Israel's disproportionate response to human suffering. The U.S. has pledged 100 million and sent supplies and personnel. The U.K. pledged $10 million and sent 64 firemen and 8 volunteers.China, a country with a population of 1,325,639,982 compared to Israel's 7.5 million sent 50 rescuers and seven journalists. The 25 Arab League nations sent nothing.
Israel's "disproportionate" response stems from Jewish memory and tradition. Mati Goldstein, head of the ZAKA International Rescue Unit delegation managed described the scene, "Everywhere, the acrid smell of bodies hangs in the air. It's just like the stories we are told of the Holocaust - thousands of bodies everywhere. You have to understand that the situation is true madness, and the more time passes, there are more and more bodies, in numbers that cannot be grasped. It is beyond comprehension." At the start of Sunday's regular Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the Israeli team had already treated hundreds of patients. "I think that this is in the best tradition of the Jewish People; this is the true covenant of the State of Israel and the Jewish People," he said. "This follows operations we have carried out in Kenya and Turkey; despite being a small country, we have responded with a big heart. The fact is, I know, that this was an expression of our Jewish heritage and the Jewish ethic of helping one's fellow. "
In the rubble and suffering of Haiti, Israelis are relentlessly searching for and saving lives. It is this "disproportionate response" that rankles their enemies the most, for it shines a light on their failings.
Israel had a fully functioning field hospital with OR ,ICU, NICU, etc on the ground almost immediately.
Napolitano said the equivalent HHS hospital would arrive at 7pm Saturday.
Where the hell are the Yanks?
where are the arabs and the mooslums?
Baby is named Israel *ping*
Proud ZAKA contributor here.

I have a sister-in-law who “hates Jews.”
Over the last thirty-years of her marriage to my brother whenever I have heard her say that I’ve asked her why.... she has no answer, other than “Because!”
Yes, she an idiot Massachusetts LIBERAL Democrat who thinks the Gubmint should attend to all our needs.
I’ll repeat what I’ve said before after having read the phrase in an article sometime ago: “Democrats are dangerously incapable of any rational thought.”
I’m ready for the next time!
Especially since Sep 11, 2001, I have become of the opinion of being more and more pro-Israeli. Even though I have no desire whatsoever of visiting the Middle East, Israel is the exception.
I was really startled to read an upbeat article about Haiti, it's just amazing how fast they got their field hospital up & running... but NOT surprising, LOL
Israel sent this aid because A) that’s what Israel does, or tries to do, when disaster happens, B) to spank the Obama administration for doing Zero, and C) to diplomatically isolate the crumbling Chavez regime in Venezuela. Thanks hennie pennie.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

Anyone? Anyone?
Interestingly the Cubans also have a functioning surgical hospital there — it functions because the Cubans are smart, and used to working in Haiti-level conditions. That’s the norm under the Castro Marxism economics.
The one doctor that Jordan would have sent blew himself up in Afghanistan a couple weeks back.
Oh I forgot, the EVIL USA MUST BE THE 911, MEALS ON WHEELS AND 24 X 7 DOCTOR FOR ALL THE WORLD'S PROBLEMS & ILLS. Forget that we have our own problems (massive unemployment/underemployment, foreclosures, banking crisis etc) we still cowboy up and help anyone in times of need - unlike MOST of the world wealthy ingrates.
BINGO! Right here is the source for much of the world's antisemitism.
I know I read a post here the other day with someone ranting about Argentina not helping, but this was inaccurate, as there were many Argintinian soldiers who were part of the U.N. peace keeping troops, and I heard one interviewed on World Service BBC radio - he and 100s of others were busy loading a cargo plane with emergency supplies.
I do know that 'Islamic Relief USA' has given a large donation to the LDS, there's a messagethread about it here on FR:

Islamic Relief USA officials announced Wednesday they were flying $1 million of aid to Haiti in cooperation with the LDS Church.
Arab countries have flocked to join the global aid effort for the survivors of the devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Haiti which may have killed more than 100,000 people. As the full extent of the quake that has destroyed much of the country became clear, planes loaded with tents, food and other emergency supplies were dispatched from the Middle East to support the estimated three million people stranded in the quake area.
A team from the UAE's Red Crescent Authority (RCA) is expected to land in the neighbouring Dominican Republic on Tuesday, armed with $500,000 to buy food supplies for survivors. The charity has already dispatched relief items on two planes. Some 50 tonnes of emergency supplies are also on track to arrive on February 19, funded by the UAE's Khalifa Bin Zayed Charity Foundation.
"This is the initial response and we are currently in communication with seven international relief organisations to further extend our assistance," Khalil Mohamed, a spokesperson for the charity, told IRIN, a unit of the United Nations.
Kuwait has donated an initial $1m to the relief efforts, to be delivered through the country's Red Crescent Society (KRCS).
"We prepared 100 tonnes of relief items - which include food, medical supplies, tents, blankets and food items - and are waiting to assign a plane that will carry them," Yousef Al Me'raj, head of KRCS' disasters department, said.
Qatar has mobilised a 26-man rescue team comprising soldiers, police and medics, in addition to 50 tonnes of aid, and plans to donate emergency supplies in the coming days. Aid agencies on the ground in Haiti have described the situation as desperate. The epicenter of the earthquake struck just ten miles from the country's capital, Port-au-Prince, destroying hundreds of buildings.
Some desperate Haitians have begun looting shops in the downtown district, prompting police to break up the crowd with gunfire, killing at least one man.
"There are many, many people trapped in the rubble," said Paul Conneally, spokesman for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies. "We're not optimistic at the moment." Ban Ki Moon, the UN Secretary-General, described the tremor as "catastrophic" and urged the international community "to come to Haiti's aid in this hour of need". Some 70,000 bodies have been buried in mass graves and a state of emergency has been declared until the end of January, the Haiti government said.
The Middle East's poorer, oil-less countries have been quick to join the region's sweeping aid drive. In Jordan, a Royal Air Force plane carrying a mobile field hospital and six tonnes of food, medicine and clothing was dispatched to the quake zone on January 14. Lebanon has dispatched a plane loaded with 25 tonnes of tents and three tonnes of medicines, vaccines and other supplies, which is expected to arrive on Tuesday. Saudi Arabia, the world's largest oil producer, has yet to announce its contribution to aid efforts, but has sent a message of condolence to Haitian President Rene Preval.
The very idea that with all coming their way; and the disaster that these people lived beFORE earthquake makes this sound like a bigoted whine.
The Saudi doesn't care since Haiti is not an Islamic country.
