The Indians, having sort of a 60's hippie, free love, liberal cultural outlook, did not observe the sanctity of marriage, as we also do not today in the West, so they "shared" the squaws with whomever and whenever.

I am not sure if Indian women had to be raped. They were glad to conjoin with the wealthy-looking European guys (like today) donning all that bling and those fancy Spanish outfits - all with their husbands approval. That was the Indian way.
