Going Rogue is now #1 at Borders Books as well as Amazon, and BN. WalMart is also taking pre-release orders as well as several Evangelical bookstores. I suspect they are also doing a brisk business.
Schmit, Murphy, and all the other Palin haters are out there trying to stave off the tsunami that will be sweep them away on Nov 17th, when the book is actually released. I’m hoping that they will be swept so far out to sea that they are never heard from or taken seriously again.
I can’t stand Schmidt (probably a fag) or his bull dyke sister, or any other gay apologists. And I don’t think the McCain campaign was even the sligtest bit effective.
That said, this piece of his quote is certainly true:
“Th[e] independent vote is going to be up for grabs in 2012. That middle of the electorate is going to be determinative of the outcome of the elections.”
Sadly, that is a time-tested truth. Now, RR built on this and he won “independents” by articulating a common sense conservatism and in so doing he won over the Reagan Democrats.
I think where Schmidt goes wrong is assuming that all independents are “moderates” (ie, left on social issues). I don’t think it is that simple. Some are Reagan D’s, some are Perot voters. Some are alienated conservatives who can’t stomach the GOP.
But his general idea is right. Any GOP nominee is going to have to win independents to win. Palin included. (Fortunately, Obama has alienated them and they are currently up for grabs).
Conservative Leaders need to make statements like “death Panels” which force the direction of the lack of Liberal premise.
How many million people voted for Palin/McCain? I guess many would be a potential buyer of her book. She is definitely a political phenom, but I am not YET convinced she can win a national election. Color me skeptical, cynical or both.
I don’t disagree with you, at all. I’m basically agnostic at this stage with regards to a Palin candidacy.
I'm going to pencil you in as leaning towards Palin.
As RR said...”Trust, but verify!”
Palin does not expect to be anointed, she must prove herself and that's what she will do.
I suspect the title of Palin’s book is her way of thumbing her nose to the GOP, i.e., letting them know that she is planning on going it alone without them.
They stand to lose as much as the Dems do if Palin becomes a viable candidate — not that I am sure she can win, but we will have to wait and see.
Your skepticism is all good. Those of us that are already firmly behind her ask only that you give her a fair chance to win you over. An honest evaluation of her as a person and as a leader and compare those qualities to anyone running against her (in the primaries or the general).
Whatever choice you make will be the right one if it’s well-reasoned and based on all the factual information.
I don’t know if it will out sell Harry Potter, but I’m sure it will out sell both of 0bama’s books, Romney’s book, Jindal’s book, Ted Kennedy’s book, and just about any other political book currently for sale. It would be great if the entire 1.5 million initial press run is sold before it’s even released, and they have to run another 1.5 million. I don’t think that is totally out of the question, I know a lot of people who are buying mulitple copies to give as gifts.
Yep. My plan is to get one copy on the day it comes out, then get another two copies if Governor Palin comes through my area for a book signing. I’d love to meet her (and the family?) and get an autographed book for myself and for my dad.
I now have my tagline!
YES!!!
That’s my hope
Interesting that Steven Schmidt seems to be limiting Sarah to ONE YEAR of public ‘getting to know you’ time, and dismissing her because she hasn’t already increased her base? Why not give her a couple more years, Steven, when the candidates for President actually start presenting themselves? I’d betcha that she’ll be a LOT more well known, AND well respected by then.
Well said, but not only has she NOT followed the scripts, she's shredded them, and show the scriptwriters as the hypocrites that they are.
Sarah is an accomplished woman, educated in public schools and colleges, who became interested in her community enough to join the PTA, join the City Council, run for Mayor, sat on an important board regarding Energy Resources in the state. When she believed she could do something to affect change in the culture of corruption among the politicians of both parties in AK, she ran for Governor and won.
Sarah did all this on her own. Her husband wasn't a politician, a lawyer, a lobbyist, a journalist, or in any professional position that could have greased the skids for her.
While doing all these things, Sarah also was raising a passle of kids. She was the woman who could 'do it all', in feminist parlance. So why weren't the feminists jumping for joy that there was FINALLY a woman running for a major national office to embodied the attributes they had always claimed a successful woman could do? Sarah has one fatal flaw as far as the liberals are concerned; she is unabashedly pro-life, even to the point where she brought a Down's Syndrome son into the world, even though she was fully aware of his condition. It is for this that feminists will NEVER support her. Abortion is the sacrament in their secular religion, and any candidate who opposes it is an enemy who must be destroyed, pure and simple.
I suspect that if you discuss Sarah with someone, and they start putting her down about education, experience, whatever, and you distilled their argument, it would boil down to abortion.
