Candor, your contact with the AG looks like it’s paid off big time!
btw, I smell KLA when I sniff ‘Michael Hilton’:
http://globalresistance.com/articles/chuss/kla.html
excerpt:
“...The proceeds of the narcotics trade has enabled the KLA to rapidly develop a force of some 30,000 men. More recently, the KLA has acquired more sophisticated weaponry including anti-aircraft and antiarmor rockets. According to Belgrade, some of the funds have come directly from the CIA “funneled through a so-called “Government of Kosovo” based in Geneva, Switzerland. Its Washington office employs the public-relations firm of Ruder Finn—notorious for its slanders of the Belgrade government”.
Just a hunch, the article refers to the 90’s - but the scumbags were not about to simply die or fade away...
thanks for the ping, looks like the (naive) folks at Hardin are in for a huge let-down.
Thanks for the post. This is a very confused post, frankly.
I SUSPECT that someone may have put up some federal funding to bring these guys in there to run the jail, and then unload some Guantanamo prisoners. But that’s just speculation.
It does seem to be the case that the head of this outfit is a crook with a pretty long record. So, if Obama hoped this would solve his Guantanamo problem, he’ll likely have to back out, pretend it never happened, and look elsewhere.
I can’t think of any other explanation for how all that money, the expensive SUVs, etc., got into this. Meantime, I suppose they scrubbed the website because of the boss’s criminal record.
Thanks for the ping, LucyT.
And a big thanks to Fred Nerks for some more valuable research!
Where would we be without the expertise of FReepers?
Their website wasn’t scrubbed. They did take down the addresses in DC and Santa Ana. The rest of it is as it was when I looked at it as soon as this story broke.
Other than that, it crashed due to heavy load. It was just one of Godaddy’s cheap hosting plans that crashes when there is any sort of heavy demand.
This looked like a scam for profit from the start. They were trying to take advantage of the people in Hardin. It looks like the one who will be really hurt is their ersatz PR agent, Becky Shay, who quit her job with the Billings Gazette for their $60,000 per year position in PR. Show up in flashy cars, offer jobs to their allies, then loot the place and disappear.
Hardin had offered the use of this prison for Gitmo detainees early this year. APF was incorporated shortly after they were turned down by the Feds. “Michael Hilton” must have figured out some sort of con to run on the people with the prison.
OK, that makes sense that the website would be overloaded, since this has gotten a lot of publicity, and some of the stories are pretty paranoid.
The only thing I find puzzling in your take on it is, where would the money come from for this scam? I presume the town is hard up, with a prison it can’t use and loans they can’t pay off. But unless they paid APF ahead of time with a generous downpayment, it’s hard to see how APF could just take the money and run. Unless there was some sort of federal funding involved, Porkulus money or the like. If so, we may never find out about it, because they will certainly try to cover it up.
Thanks LucyT. What a “story”!
I’ve probably only seen one entire episode of that show, plus a few scattered parts of it every now and again.
Anyway, my mom loves to watch COPS. We think it’s hilarious because she always complains anytime there’s any violence on any tv show. We joke that she can’t watch fake violence— it has to be the real thing.
So one night Reno 911 was on when she had woken up from snoozing and she watched it for a few minutes and kept making comments about it. Then when Dangle came on she was like, “Holy cow. I can’t believe they’d let him wear that kind of outfit!” That’s when I explained it was a parody.
Unfortunately mom’s memory isn’t so good anymore, so on those few occasions that Reno 911 shows up on the screen I have to remind her that it’s a parody. I usually wait just a little bit to see if she catches on herself. Usually she says, “What kind of police force is this?” and that’s my cue to remind her... She always seems so disappointed to find out it’s not a COPS episode...
These stuff is as bad as when the Wilson/Plame stuff hit the circuit.
