Do you long to hear the dulcet sounds of the salpinx, barbiton, aulos or the syrinx? Of course not, because no one has heard them in centuries. Most people have never even heard of them.

But you will soon have the chance to experience musical instruments familiar to ancient civilizations but long since forgotten.

I don’t mind it in person - you can sort of tune it out - but on a recording it’s very distracting.

One of Yanni’s concerts featured the dukduk. The guy playing it is a specialist in ancient wind instruments, and he was magnificent!

I guess figuring out how to play an ancient instrument to best effect would be a plus.

The sound is similar to an Clarinet/Oboe. But the dukduk is much older than the Oboe. Probably, the Oboe was an innovative progression to the dukduk. It does have a very haunting quality ...
