Look who’s hijacking 9/11

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 24, 2009 11:06 AM

Matthew Vadum reports that Obama’s left-wing allies are preparing plans to re-brand 9/11 as a national service/eco-zealot propaganda day.

Really:

The Obama White House is behind a cynical, coldly calculated political effort to erase the meaning of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks from the American psyche and convert Sept. 11 into a day of leftist celebration and statist idolatry.

This effort to reshape the American psyche has nothing to do with healing the nation and everything to do with easing the nation along in the ongoing radical transformation of America that President Obama promised during last year’s election campaign. The president signed into law a measure in April that designated Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service, but it’s not likely many lawmakers thought this meant that day was going to be turned into a celebration of ethanol, carbon emission controls, and radical community organizing.

The administration’s plans were outlined in an Aug. 11 White House-sponsored teleconference call run by Obama ally Lennox Yearwood, president of the Hip Hop Caucus, and Liv Havstad, the group’s senior vice president of strategic partnerships and programs.

Yearwood, who uses the honorific “Reverend” before his name, has been in the news in recent years, usually for getting arrested. After Democrats took back Congress, the rowdy activist was handcuffed outside a congressional hearing in September 2007 when Gen. David Petraeus was to testify. Yearwood told the “Democracy Now” radio program that he wanted to attend the hearing to hear Petraeus give his report. “I knew that when officers lie, soldiers die,” he said.

On the Aug. 11 call, Yearwood and other leaders kept saying repeatedly that they wanted 9/11 to be used for something “positive,” “forward-leaning,” and “productive,” said a source with knowledge of the teleconference.

The plan is to turn a “day of fear” that helps Republicans into a day of activism called the National Day of Service that helps the left. In other words, nihilistic liberals are planning to drain 9/11 of all meaning.

Makes perfect sense coming from a president who believes that the root of 9/11 jihadi stems “from a fundamental absence of empathy on the part of the attackers.”

***

The provision turning 9/11 into a “National Day of Service” was lodged in the massive national service expansion bill – GIVE/SERVE — signed into law this spring.

Reminder: Only 14 Republicans in the Senate voted against the bill.

Have you signed up for Project 2996 yet?

a few years ago there was/is Alan Sherman, who made a comic record about going to camp.

One of the effective lines was about running the flag up

the flag pole and see who salutes.

It is beginning to appear we as Americans are indeed saluting whatever flag/issue is run up the flagpole.

Who would have thought it? CRAZY!

the root of 9/11 jihadi stems “from a fundamental absence of empathy on the part of the attackers.”

In and of itself that's hard to argue with. Although it's a lot like proclaiming that water is wet.

But later on in the quote he spoils it by falling back into the old poverty and hopelessness meme, with their being in this condition implied as our responsibility.

You have every reason to be fed up. But do you truly believe that McCain would be leading us the same as Obama and his henchmen?

It was a day of celebration in the middle east. I hope this backfires so bad, he has to resign!

I'm not sure how different they are domestically (immigration), but I'm sure he would've been better on foreign policy at least (not that it would take much to be an improvement).

And of course, our troops wouldn't have to worry about whether their orders are lawful (if Bo turns out to be ineligible for the presidency).

But that doesn't change the fact that I have only trust the Right more than the Left because the Left are beyond psychopathic, whereas the Right is only mildly so, if differently.

It looks like it’s going to be an ACORN/Black thing, so that they can play the race card against anyone who comlains about it.

Freerepublic types are not a normal cross-section of the population, but rather some of the most politically active among conservatives. You two are talking about a tiny minority of the population. McCain still would have lost if all the stubborn freepers had gone in and voted for him—because he was a crappy candidate. Yes, I voted for him, but he was a crappy candidate. So let’s spend our energy looking for a good candidate for the next round instead of worrying about the 4 people at freerepublic who sat at home.

Imagine if there were a mandate, a directive, that said that no bill or law shall be passed until every individual voting for it read it in its entirety...

Good idea. Related, this is from a new post upthread about burying things in bills:

How to hide the truth...Washington style

"It was a day of celebration in the middle east."

And he continues to kiss up to our enemies (his friends, those who celebrated 9/11) and continues to diss our allies.

It's not hard to imagine that he's a 'Manchurian candidate,' a muslim plant to conquer our nation in the name of islam without firing a shot.

Sun Tzu would be proud (Art of War).

And the SEIU/union.

Yes, expect the race card, and expect more "class warfare."

My wife and I married Sept. 11,1976(33 years this year).my Mother passed away Sept. 11, 1991. The Twin Towers were destroyed and 3,000+ people were murdered on Sept. 11,2001.
To me it is a convoluted day to remember not celebrate or made light of.
I pray for the souls of the victims of that day.

I saw that post here on FR and posted the very same suggestion you qoute me writing, there.

I think the bureaucratic style of governance has reached its limit in terms of the size and complexity it is capable of handling.

And for it to be in the hands of whiny, childlike politicians is very dangerous, imo.

Wow. That's amazing! Talk about an interesting confluence of.. I'm not sure what to call that.

What BO is doing here is a desecration of the memory of those taken on that day and an insult.

In fact, just his being in the WH as a muslim is a desecration and an insult.

It would be interesting to know if there are any stats estimating how many sat home.

And yeah, McCain was a crappy candidate, I think they all were, except Sarah of course, no one was going to beat the “historical” hope and change.

irony is the UK allowing the son of Khaddaffi live in a palacial estate while not even allowing Geert Wilders and Micheal Savage to come for a visit. Irony is a UK Christian School than bans crosses on necklace but allows religious symbols from other faiths. Irony is Muslim Prayer Rooms in UK Catholic Schools.

If 0 calls the US a muslim nation, the UK is doubly so, and sinking fast.

I wish there was something we could do to help - and not just them, but ourselves as well.
