At least *I* was registered for over a year and a half before I started bashing McCain like there was no tomorrow.
Even then, I’m still a newbie compared to most Freepers, who have been here five, six, seven, or more years.

Hey, I lurked two and a half years (starting in '98) before registering my account. I cut my internet teeth by going into the enemy nests (the old usenet) and (to quote the False Messiah) "getting in their faces." It was really ugly during Bubba's impeachment year, but fun to rip the moonbats new ones. You must've still been in elementary school in them days, Rabs. ;-D

I feel it is less a time thing than a “shoot straight and let us know where you are coming from” thing.
Running into a new place and acting like you have been there forever and everyone should ‘know’ you is a bit much. Especially when the place is oft overrun with poseurs..

Is there a time limit someone needs to be on the site before they’re allowed to make threads? I was unaware of such a rule.
