I was just told by a source inside the largest Ford dealership in a major city that, effective immediately, they have dropped out of the cash for clunkers program. As it turns out, the Feds can't find their checkbook. They are behind by more than $400K with this dealer and it's causing the dealer great financial distress..

I agree. The program has not been up and running long enough for dealers to be getting money back yet, as each of those purchases should be audited before the feds send money to the dealers. Something is not exactly right about this complaint.
It’s the same with the first time home buyer’s tax credit (at least that’s what I’m hearing.) No money is forthcoming, to those who applied for the credit, or to the banks who let the homeowner use it to help with the downpayment and closing costs (http://www.rocklintoday.com/news/templates/realestate_california.asp?articleid=7655&zoneid=48).

Did Onada ever say anything about actually paying out the money? Who would be stupid enough to buy into a program that is dependent on gove’t funding these days?
OK, OK the stupid homeless guy or gal may not be aware that federal and state treasuries are broke. But surely one would expect business people—even car dealers—would understand THERE IS NO MONEY.
Who knows, this dealer could be meeting the same kind of idiocy I dealt with over twenty years ago when I did some work for the Navy at Charleston. The invoice didn’t get paid and finally I called and spoke to the woman who was supposed to handle it and she promised to get my check out but didn’t. This went on for two months or more past the due date. Everytime I called she acted as if this was the first she had heard of my invoice. Finally I called and she gave me the same runaround but with more obvious disrespect. So I started speaking very slowly, in a deep voice dripping with malice and told her to listen closely. “I will not call you again, if I don’t get paid this time my next call will go to my United States Congressman from the sixth district of South Carolina”.I gave her the name of the man who held the office and asked if she had understood me. She changed her whole attitude and said, “Yes, Sir I understand perfectly, I will get your check right out”. I had my check in the next day’s mail. I have had similiar experiences with private industries. Some of these people get some kind of sick satisfaction out of holding up payment.
200 here at one dealer that is also quitting the program. Multiple dealerships under one name is my assumption. And they have not seen a dime.
O wants Ford to suffer. They hate that Ford didn’t take their bailout.
