I actually don't have a problem with what Obama said here. Based on the excerpt, at least, I don't see Obama saying that the U.S. didn't win the Cold War, but rather that the U.S. didn't win the Cold War alone. That is 100% true - though the Cold War would not have been won without the U.S. (and, more specifically, without Reagan), it also would not have been won without the strong yearning for freedom all over Eastern Europe.

In some ways, I think it's actually better to say that it was more than just the U.S. that won the Cold War, because I think it's important to remember that the Cold War was not merely a power struggle between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R., but rather a war between Freedom and oppression.
