There’s no upside to this. She gave the ‘rats a loaded gun to use on her and they will and it will work. They’ll say she’s a quitter...unreliable...undependable. When the going gets tough Sarah gets going. She refused to finish out a single term as Governor, how could she ever be trusted with the WH? And on and on ad nauseum. And this time they’ll be justified. Anyone who doesn’t see that she just committed political suicide is kidding themselves.

Obama didn’t finish his first term as Senator and the people of Illinois were already taking the proper steps to IMPEACH him from his Senate Seat....

The MSM would have continued on the attack regardless of what Palin did. This just unties her hands.

It's a real tough sell for Dems to attack her for her decision without acknowledging that Obama did something far more questionable with his Senate seat (SINO?). Alaska will be in capable hands. Illinois got left with the Burris nightmare.

If the majority of voters (both living an dead) refuse to wise up and continue to let the MSM control their perception, then Obama will be reelected regardless.

Actually, comments about Palin’s political viability aside, what I liked most about Ann's comments was the way she put public office in it's proper place, a middle of the road job. How and why politicians ever got elevated to celebrity status is not clear to me, but it's ridiculous that they be thought of by anyone as anything more than public servants elected to represent and work for their constituents.

Also, what the liberal guy said about Palin not enacting any major new policy initiatives or legislation is indicative of what's wrong with liberal politics. Why do people think that elected officials should have as their goal pushing through new initiatives and legislation? It's that mindset that gives us an ever expanding reach of government into the private sector.

She strategically handed the reins to her lieutenant governor to avoid the frivolous attacks on her that will necessarily harm her state. That’s honorable, not weak.

And now she can do whatever she wants to do in furtherance of conservative goals. You can listen to what she said in her speech and you can listen to her detractors, but you can’t believe both. It’s each individual’s responsibility to decide what to believe. I believe the governor.

Maybe. I wish she had at least finished her first term, but stranger things have happened. This country elected Barack Obama (and re-elected Bill Clinton). If she raises cash, helps other candidates get elected and successfully articulates conservative principals, her early resignation may be a distant memory in three years.

pgkdan: You’re thinking rationally. This whole odyssey is about the irrational.
